I love whitetail hunting all across the country; every state has something unique to offer. Wyoming is a state where I haven’t had the privilege to hunt … that was, until this year.
I was lucky enough to get set up on a trip with 7J Outfitters out of Sundance, Wyoming, for a deer hunt! If you’re like me, your first thought was probably mule deer when I said “Wyoming.” That makes sense, but there are also some great whitetail hunting opportunities in Wyoming. And that’s what I was after!
My 7J camp was composed of one of the nicest groups of people you could ever find. The hunting was pretty amazing as well! By the time the last day of my hunt rolled around, every single person in camp had tagged out—I was the only one left. On the final evening, a nice buck stepped out behind me at 51 yards and I decided to take the shot.
I had been practicing every day at the 3-D range in camp, and I was completely confident about taking that shot because I had done it numerous times before heading out. My arrow hit right on the mark and I ended up heart-shooting a beautiful 4×4 buck. He barely made it 30 yards. It was a great ending to a wonderful trip. And the best part wasn’t necessarily the buck, but the friends I had made in camp. Sure, the buck was great and the hunting was a blast, but sometimes the friendships are what you’ll remember the longest.
