Does anyone have any experience training Daschunds(wiener dogs) to hunt any kind of game? I know that it is in their blood. I would like to try and train mine to chase squirells he already has a knack for chasing them, however I need to refine those skills.

Never had one myself, but years ago when I belonged to Southern Michigan Beagle Club we had a lady that had them. We let her use our grounds for training and even had her Daschund club use our grounds for a field trial once a year. This lady had some of the best dogs in the country, but she imported them from Germany to get hunting stock. They were used for trailing rabbits and digging game out of holes in the ground. She said most of the dogs in the US have had most of their hunting instincts bred out of them. If you already have one, you would have nothing to loose by trying to train it.

Had quite a few mini doxies, but never trained them for hunting, thought about training for trailing but never did, but the dogs have a good prey drive in them, at least ours did, they killed cats ,squrrels, rabbits, and were trying a opossum but got there in time to break it up ( saved a few cats too), heck our 11lb. male tried to take on a horse. So give it a try whats the worst that could happen, you have a pet.
May your life be long and your bloodtrails short
