    Hello everyone,

I am going to get into hunting using muzzleloaders as most of the people that I hunt with are trending to that, and was wondering what are the best muzzleloaders that you can purchase for under $250.  Any type of quality start up equipment would be a plus as well.

    Thanks!

My experience is you buy the gun and then spend about as much on bullets, powder, and posibility kit items to find the perfect load.  Cabellas had a close-out special on the Remington Genesis a few years ago.  The gun cost less than $200.

Although you may get a muzzleloader for the amount of money you state you must remember that you need powder, bullets, short starter, cleaning supplies such as a range rod and patches, a means of measuring powder and a couple of jags for your ramrod.

Dan I bought a CVA Wolf for 150.00$ new. I'm not a big guy so this gun fits me great. CVA also has other models that are very reasonable priced. They also sell a starter set up with gun, scope, bullets and cleaning supplies. You just have to buy powder. I've shot every deer I've ever killed with this gun. I don't think you can beat CVA for the money. I'm also a low budget hunter.

A "kit" or "package gun" is the best bet to get started for te amount new. However, I have found that one can pick up some real bargains right after hunting season at the pawn shops and on-line sales sources because people get a muzzleloader, try it, don't like it and sell it off to pay Christmas bills. Often they are a little rusty because people that do this are the same ones that don't take care of their guns, but a little scrubbing can save them and they often are really nice guns.

Thanks everyone. My cousin's husband manages a gun/sporting goods store in the area and I am having him check into them for me.

I got a New England Firearms Sidekick for $150 a few years ago.  Unfortunately, Remington bought the company, closed the Gardener Mass plant where they made the rifle, then discontinued the item.  You might find a used one somewhere.  Another question is whether or not to put a scope on your new rifle.  (if your state allows it).  Get a good scope.  Check out Swift scopes.  They have super clear, multi-coated optics and an over-the-counter lifetime warranty.  Best of luck to you and be safe.
They can have my guns when they can pry them from my cold dead fingers. A man with a gun is a citizen, a man without a gun is a subject.

I actually found a CVA Wolf model with a 3-9x40 scope for $240. Going to go and pick it up either this weekend or next.

I bought a Wolf 2 years ago and I really like it. Great ML for the price. I used a T/C Hawken for years and still do but that CVA Wolf sure is nice and lite weight and short.
