I just spent a couple of days in the Plymouth area trying to hunt areas that we had been hunting since 1978.  I had not been there for a couple of years since my friend passed away a couple of years ago.  I could not believe how much the undergrowth has increased.  The logging roads we would walk in on was so overgrown it was difficult to follow it.  When I got to my favorite spot to sit I discovered a max of 40 or 50 yards of clear shooting.  I guess this will be the last time I plan on hunting that area.

Why??... sounds like a better spot to hunt now.

    Was there any deer sign?

There was plenty of deer sign and also fresh bear tracks in the snow. The bear track was longer than my hand. My hand is fairly large. The difficulty getting to the spot I have hunted all these years and then the lack of distance to shoot makes it dissappointing. I do not want to cut down a bunch of trees to create shooting distance. If I had been there the past couple of years and trimmed it regularly, it would have been better. I suppose the fact that my hunting buddy is gone makes things worse.

Sorry to hear about your hunting buddy.

My brother and I hunted the Campton Bog and finally gave up after the deer yard was destroyed by the proliferation of coyotes.

There use to be world class deer in that bog!

I would suggest that you find a tree to get into, most times just getting up 15-20 feet will open up tens of yards of shooting lanes.

There is nothing like it when hunting areas that have been cut off, it becomes a different world from 15-20 feet.

My friend that died lived on Meadow Lane off of Beech Hill Road. I know there are a lot of coyotes in that area too. Have you thought about hunting coyotes by the bog? If I wasn't heading out to Iowa for several months, I would go up there and see if I could get a few coyotes. It might even be worth a day trip to try it. I am leaving for Iowa in early January and don't expect to get home until Late May or June. I am planning on taking rifles with me to see if I can call in a few coyotes out there.
