So most of us will agree that the equipment we use gives us an advantage against our prey. But just like what we use before the kill the knife we use makes a difference. I use a schrade old timer. My wife got me a Garber set with a gut hook and a bone saw. The combo works pretty good. I know a guy that uses a 10in k-bar he got in the Marine Corp. To me that's a little big. Then I know a few guys who use 2 -3in pocket knives. Just curious as to what others use? |

I use a schrade also a small K-bar is a spare in my pack now that I work at Buck I bought a high dollar version of the Buck kalinga that I can't wait to get some blood on (hopefully not mine lol) |

my Dad gutted a few deer with a straight razor and it worked great! You can use about anything if its sharp enough! |

I have a K- Bar that I have used for 40 years, its the sarpest knife I have ever used, it stays sharp no matter that you are skinning, or cutting, easy to sharp. I always carry it in a back pack to gut the game I shoot. Real good knife, |

Now that I've tried one, I use a custom made one of a kind, Heirloom game calls "skinner" knife. Thanks to Brian  . |

I use a set of buck knifes i bought over 20 years ago as a set in one sheath.I do have one of those gut hook knives that brian makes and it works great .Heirloom game calls .com .Check them out . |

I use a scharade XT3B with a gut hook my wife got for me a couple years ago and out of all the hunting knives I like it the best and I have a lot of them that is one of my hobbies collecting knives I have about 300 or so all makes models big and small but that one is the eaziest to use best damn skinner ive got but everyone has their preferance just thought I would put in my 2 cents good luck out there  |

I'm a perennial experimenter, so I've tried field dressing, skinning and quartering with a bit of everything from a #10 scalpel to a Marine K-bar, to a Gerber Mk II dagger. To newcomers, I ALWAYS recommend a Buck 110 Folding Hunter. It's just the right size, resharpens easily, and easy to carry. All I really need, except perhaps a cordless Sawzall ( mine's actually a Black & Decker) with a 6" demolition blade for bone - a marvelously handy tool back in camp. |

I use an SOG revolver hunter for the gutting, a Buck Vanguard for the skinning, and a fillet knife I got from the club to debone. |

It depends on my mood. I use one of my own when I have one. SOMEHOW they always seem to end up borrowed, stole or sold when I take them out. I also have an old Gerber folding guthook I keep in the truck for "Just in case" as well as an old buck I used to carry on my belt when I was in the service. As far as the blades I prefer, it would definately come down to the guthook skinner I build. Handle is just the right size for me (go figure) and the blade is just the right shape and length with a good backbone for strength. They can take a bit to sharpen if you let them get real dull but that is a by-product of the steels hardness. The tougher it is to sharpen the ougher the edge. I sell these knives for $65.00 each and that includes free shipping. All that said, I MIGHT be a little biased on this one....  |

After you take care of the gutting I would recommend Brian's skinner knives . The first one I did with that knife sure impressed me , and over the years I've done more than a few . |

 I use a K-Bar with a narrow 4" blade . I have had it for at least 40 years . A couple years ago I bought a Gerber Metolius E_Z open blade for gutting the deer . It's the blade with the little ball on the end and works like a Zipper ! |

I use a Buck Alpha with a gut hook that I have had for about 10 years. The hollow ground edge is impossible to maintain in the field, but the excellent edge retention makes it unnecessary except at the end of the season. As an added bonus, Buck will resharpen it free of charge for life, all I have to do is pay shipping. I have to admit to being completely ignorant about Brian's knives but I an very curious about tham since everyone seems to like them. Can someone fill me in? |

hey BWARNER that is a sharp looking knife it has a close shape to my schrade if I could afford one I would get one for myself I collect all kinds of knives being disabled the budget doesent allow for much extra but it looks well built and I like the colors  |

THANKS jd!!! I certainly understand the budget crunch. All my knives are made with 440C stainless with RC-ratings between 57-59. That is a pretty hard steel that can take some time to re-sharpen because of the hardness. That being said, the tougher to sharpen, the tougher it'll be to dull. The handles range from antler, to acrylic to laminated wood like the one above to natural wood. Usually maple, walnut or cherry. HOWEVER, I do make them sometimes with exotic wood as well but that does effect the price. I can honestly say that I made a knife for a feller like the blade above and he cleaned 8 wild hogs with it before he needed to re-sharpen it. (He runs one of those hog hunting ranches). Prices range from $45.00 to $125.00 for the average knife with laminated or wood handles. The sheaths are handmade by myself and my wife for each knife. I make the rivited ones and she sews the sewn ones. We can make them to fit either or even both sides of your belt. The ambidextrous sheath will also hold your knife on your bnackpack or rifle strap or go in the smallof your back on your belt.
I make knives for hunting and fishing. I try to keep them functional and priced so the average feller can afford them without a second mortgage. I also, from time to time male a damascuss blade that is very nice. Though it is expensive, it is a hi-carbon steel that holds an edge very well. These I do more as the mood strikes and in very limited numbers. Here is a picture of the last one I did. Antler and honduran rosewood handles. This knife sold for a little over $300.00.

well untill money starts to flow around here I'll be using the folding Puma, the Buck 110 and one or both of the 35+year old Old Timers, I really like the style of this knife it just feels right in the hand..although I think I would sell my left nut for one of Brians that is similar to them  |
