Need information and guidance.  I am a disabled retired military officer and NRA Range officer.  I have moderate to severe spinal cord damage and the hardest thing I have to do is walk and climb.  Guidance in needed on what and how I may proceed with hunting of whitetail deer in Southern Louisiana.    I appears I may be limited to handguns since my left arm is fused and rt. arm needs sugerical repair of the rotater cup.    Looking at a .41 mag and electric golf cart to carry gound blind,  Any suggestion?

first i would like to thank you for your service! and welcome to the club! as the name implies i too am handicapped! the best suggestion would be hunt with friends! i got mine the last 2 years with the help of friends and family! last year my son and a very good friend helped me, they had to pick me up at least 12 times! but i finnally ended up getting a 5x4 blacktail! but i was skunked for 11 years prior! so just keep tring! and work with what you have and are comfortable with! comfort equalls confidence!

Hello MajorKen,Like you I have severe spinal injuries along with several other Impediments. I am semiambulatory like you and when I received my disability backpay I bought a badboy buggy to get in the woods with my blind and other equipment. As far as weapons, acrossbow with a cocking aid, a good set of shooting stcks for archery season. My left and right rotator cuffs are torn but I can still fire a rifle with a good recoil pad due to the fact that the shooting sticks takes the weight of the weapon. I have found that not having to support the weapon the recoil does not effect my rotator cuffs at all! With your left being fused it will not come in to play as much using the sticks. I hope this information helps. If I can help in any other way as I have hade to "Adapt and over come" To continue to hunt just email me at fnic27209@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your service in the Military, I am also disabled with spinal problems and have difficulties walking or climbing and can't get on my knees at all, I suggest that you think about using a UTV 4X4 design, or get a winch put on that golf cart. I use a Ruger 44 mag "Redhawk" which I have taken whitetail deer out to 200 yds but that is the farthest I ever shot, I use jacketed Hollow Points the shock factor is the reason. I live in Pa. and have the permits needed to hunt from a vehicle, & to use a crossbow I go hunting whitetail deer in my 4X4 Pickup but I have to hunt fields aso I park near fence lines. I only hunt when I have a partner to help me by driving deer and dressing the deer out once harvested I use a rope over a high enough tree limb to load the deer into my truck bed, and my wife helps me process the animal once I am home. I am at a point now where I am looking for a healthy partner that is will to hunt with the disabled since my partner has become ill and can no longer assist me. Hope this has given you some ideas. Good Luck on your hunt!!!
