Big game lottery results out, and wow, didn't see this coming. Any Elk, unit E3, early season! Wow, where to start?

Hunted 16 days In September. Saw elk a total of 4 days, always at sunset & looked like they were In Idaho (albeit avg high was 87d every day). when seeing some that night, I'd return that morning to aprox. where I thought I saw them. Nothing. But this last weekend, with the lower temps (from Sept), I was excited. Saw nothing. Frustrating, but always well worth it. Seasons not over yet.

Well I tried. hunted a total of 32 days (just filled out NDGF survey) & while most I did see I would have needed a 50cal just to come close . Had a good shot twice on cows in November, & one spike as well, but after that any Elk I did see, that would have been stalkable (size/distance/time) were always near the bottoms (Private). Always in hindsight though, I should have took a cow shot. Atleast I'd have good burger. So while I'll never get to hunt Elk in ND again & never did harvest one, It was still a great time.

Used up alot of vacation time, yes. Camping in the south unit, bring your own food & not driving aimlessly, it really wasn't that bad. 85% spent on gas from home to unit. Could have ended better, oh well always got Moose & Big Horn left.
