If we are talking sitting in a stand, then the extra large boots or over boots make sense. I walk, stalk a lot so boot fit is important and I find and concur on Silk liners, poly next and the third sock is wool. I especially like the Smart wool expedition or heavy hiker model, which is a thick merino wool sock that has lycra in the right areas. Bridgedale (an Irish sock maker) also makes a great cold weather hiking sock that is part Alpaca and Merino wool. I live in Florida and wear merino wool socks year round due to their natural insulation from heat or cold and breathability.
