These are some the latest knives I built the last couple weeks in the shop. The blades are all 440c stainless and hardened to an RC rating of 57 to 59. Should you like the blade but not the handle wood, give me a hollar and we can build one up with another color wood or a natural wood for you. Turn around is about 1 - 2 weeks right now. Exotic woods and materials will cost extra but the sure do make for a pretty knife. The sheaths are all hand made and stitched with the exception of the "Buck" type folder and the fillet knives. Enjoy!!! You can contact me through a PRIVATE MESSAGE or E-MAIL at heirloomgamecalls@yahoo.com
    THESE ARE CLUB MEMBER PRICES.
    THANKS!!!
    Brian

I'm SO glad you like MRD!!!! I'm thinking about making all my sheaths like that from here on out. It offers both left and right handed people easy use because you can out it ANYWHERE on your belt or even the sing on your rifle and still get to it easily. If your wondering what I'm talking about, it's the top knife in the picture of the "UPSWEPT SKINNER" above. THANKS AGAIN MRD!!!!

I have one of the ones with the gut hook on it.
Looks to be a great knife, have not used it yet but this fall/winter it should get used, well I hope so anyway.
Also have a pig squealer, duck call and turkey box call.

You fella's ain't kid'n I've got one of Brian's "pig stickers", bought a few fillet knives for friends (very, very satisfied customers. One's a fishing guide and said he'll use no other! He said it has the perfect blade like he's never seen and it stays sharp ) and other various knives. The man knows how to make a knife My next investment is one of his gut hooks. Matter of fact, Brian, you might as well as send me one now cuz bow season opens soon and I'd hate to be without one when the time comes to use it Before I forget, can I get that in Mountain camo to match my box call

    Brian,
Is there a secret to sharpening the "gut hook"?

The "cheapest" way to do it is to roll a small peice of 400 grit sand paper into a roll small enough to fit the hook. Then be sure to work TOWARDS the edge. It won't be fast, so take your time. It'll sharpen up real nice fr you.
    Grizzly,
I got the wood for your handle. I'll get a blade pretty soon.

Thank you I will give that a try. also what do you think of S30V steel? Will it keep an edge longer and is it easier to sharpen?
I use a knife every day and have just been reading up on the steels.

I'll be totally honest, I haven't really checked that out yet. (I will now though). I'll look into it ad see what I can learn. The steel I like is 440c stainless. It is a proven knife steel that keeps an edge well yet still alows for maintainence as needed. I'll let you know what I find out and learn. If I can, I'll get a peice and put it to the test to see hw it does comapred to the 440c.

Hi Guys... These knives look really good and I just put one on my Christmas List!!! I have never been a big fan of 440C but at the same time most of my skinning shed knives are 440C. It does hold an edge well and sharpens easily... For the field I prefer good old hand forged carbon because it holds and edge really well and sharpens easily but my favorites is ATS34 and that S30V. I trap and spend alllot of time in the bush after a retirement from MNR and always carry a small diamond hone to touch up the edge of my 34 knives. Last winter I purchased a S30V knife and last week had to finally go looking for the stee... It was that long since I had to touch up the edge!!! Will go looking for the maker next winter at the trapper's convention in North Bay and see it this was good luck or whether this steel and of course maker is hat good?!? Stay tuned folks!!! Happy Trails!!!

Been doing some research o the S30V steel. TOUGH stuff, edge retention rated at 145%. It is a powdered metal formed to create a hard, yet workable steel with carbide inbedded in the powder as it is made. The main draw back is price. The price is comparable with damascuss steel.
