Why of course it's feed corn....I don't need RR corn Weeds aren't the problem...and it germinated like mad...2-3" in 7 days!...why would I need to spend 300 Dollars on corn planted in July....the plant is all I wanted for cover...the corn ....Attached are pics of the same feed corn I planted last year in July...but didn't have a  turkey "problem" last year...by the way that corn got ears on it even in a mid July planting...

What I was asking is where do you get it for 7.50 a bag? I guess you don't know feed from seed corn. Feed corn is what you put on the ground or in a feeder, seed corn you plant to grow.

So I guess you buy feed corn at 7.50 a bag and plant it, if I'm understanding you. If it works for you that's good. I plant seed corn for the deer to eat. I just don't see feed corn growing anything worth a thing.

I see alot of trash growing in that picture and no ears on it but pictures don't show things sometimes.

The bottom picture I'm guessing is after something. Thats what seed corn looks like after it dies because it dont grow well.

If your happy I'm happy for you.

The bottom pic was taken in March...this is after the raccoons ...deer...crow and turkey had at it...The corn had actually grown to 7-8 feet by the first frost and the ears were on but under developed...which I'd have to assume is the reason I have many more turkey in the area than before...ppl were planting corn... growing and using it for feed and seed hundreds of years before ...engineered crops came about and did very well....as I said I want cover and food for the wild life and a 7.50 bag of corn does that for me...so I am happy...We'll see what happens next year when I finally have that field prepped well enough to get a crop in in May not July.

If your happy with 300.00 a bag...more power to you and happy hunting...

Ya know WCDH...if you start at the beginning of this post ...it was a friendly discourse between hunters..plotters and you seem to be a round tight on this...for what ever reason...so I'm going to say I'm happy for your large racks...That's not how I judge my hunting experience but don't begrudge others in their idea of success...

Soo once again ...I'll say happy hunting and good day...

Thank You,

Did not know I was being unfriendly.

Little tip for you go to your local USDA and get corn, milo, soybeans and even sunflowers for FREE. Some have it all and some have none.

I said nothing about your success.

I got to wander why some people twist things around in here.

I have been to the USDA and got the corn and soybean. it is a good deal , was not for free but beets $229 I paid for corn seed this past year.. I can get it at the USDA for $10 per 50lbs just didnt have any this past year.. and feed corn does great as well i just have a weed prob when I tried it so I get the roundup ready and that is also what the USDA has.. it is mostly a year old seed so the jermination is not as good but  it does the job and you can also  take care of the weeds after about 6 inches of growth.. and yet to see a 150 + classs Buck on my food plots but still makes me happy to know they are well fed through the year LOL some one has to feed them doe's

Here are the pics of plots before season....The corn is closing in on 6ft and we had a pretty nasty storm last night so that should keep in growing well...is now giving some cover...the turnips are growing great... as well is the little bit of secret spot I put down...the turnips in the soybean area I cut due to deadly night shade...which got into the pasture and killed a baby goat....will be spraying down pasture and reseeding in spring.......well they are doing great and the soybeans are still getting hit hard but have lots of beans...

How are you all doing?

Hello everyone!

I have a question for you. did any of you ever plant any acorn/oak trees to supplement the ones already there or to add a variety of food to what the deer already eat?

Reason I am asking is, I am thinking of planting a few Sawtooth oak "gobbler" variety in an area where there are no-oak trees at. The only trees are Black walnut, poison Sumac (dear like the red buds), honeysuckle vine/bush, and a non-acorn type of oak tree, plus raspberries and a mulberry tree here and there. And CORN fields galore!  Here is my propsed locations for the oak trees (they are the red dots), the green dots are 2 Semi-Dwarf apple trees we currently have:

I've planted a few red oaks grown from acorns off a tree in my back yard. Only had partial success transplanting them since I planted them in the late summer, early fall. Learned my lesson. I've got 8 persimmon, about 20 sawtooth and about 3 dozen red oak trees (all raised from seed) growing in tubs now, that I plan to transplant in the late winter/early spring. I just picked up about 2 dozen more persimmon seeds (from a pile of coon poop. Don't laugh....thats how I got the first seeds!LOL!) So I guess I'll know more early next year.
MGroff,
On your place, I might consider planting more sawtooths.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to show where I was thinking of planting them. I am currently thinking of about 6 trees to start with and then add 6 to them next year and then 6 the next year.  For a total of 18 Sawtooth Gobbler Oaks. They will also help to bring in the Turkey and maybe hold them here for a little while through hunting season. I know the Squirrels will love the acorns as well. They go after the Black Walnuts and then bring them down to the house and burry them around the shrubs and bushes, and next thing we know we have Black Walnut trees starting to grow amongst our shrubs and bushes! Darn squirrels!  THose little buggers are even chewing up the wood of our back deck to get to the salt that dad uses to melt the ice and snow!   Me think it is time for Squirrel stew!
