Hey all, We have added the Private Messages back in, right now its
still in Beta, but you are all free to use it. We currently added it to
the drop down menu under forums, and currently you will have to go
there to check or send a PM. There is a "compose" link, and then if you
know the display name of who you want to send it to, you can just add
it, otherwise you will need to search it in the directory on that same
page. We are currently working on adding a "message" link
right beneath everyone's name in the forums themselves so you can go
right there to send a PM. We will also work on a more sophisticated way
to alert you when you have a PM, right now you will get a message sent
to your email account you set up your profile with, but we will also add
a message center box at the top of every page. Any
questions, let us know. Thanks all! |

I think I was the first to notice the new system and made a comment on the Miscellaneous Forum a few minutes ago. Could you do us a big favor and possibly place some instructions on the BB somewhere on how to use all the stuff that new system has available. I was able to send a simple message to a member already, but it would be nice if us computer nerds were showed the ropes on how to use the features that you have gone to the trouble to add. Thanks!!!

Ok all, here are some instructions for the Private Messaging... please remember, it will get easier when we add the "Message" button to every poster as well, we just wanted to get you all in as soon as possible as we know many have been waiting for this. 1. First, go to "Private Messages" drop down under "Forums" in the main navigation. You will see your messages as well as some links. Click on "Compose Message" to send a message. 2. You can add the user name of the person you wish to PM in the field circled below, or you can search for that member by clicking on the magnifying glass icon, also circled. 3. In the search screen, you can search by display name, first name, last name, etc. and then click "Find Members". All you have to do next is click the "message" button, and you will get the window to draft your message. Remember, we will add that message button to every person's name to make it easier. Also, you can set up signatures for your PM's under the "preferences" link seen in the first screen shot. Thanks all! |

Thanks! I had figured out those things. If you have time, could you go more in depth on other features like the signature, etc. or is it just like doing our tagline in our profile? Do you have to do the signature every time you send a PM if you want it on there, or is it the same every time you PM anybody until you actually go in and change it?

Here is some info on the Signatures: Click on Preferences, and you will see two options, "Signatures" is obviously the one you want. I have two in the screen shot below (you can utilize multiples), but click on "Add New Signature" to bring up the edit screen. Give it a title (so you know which signature you are selecting when you draft your message, write your message/signature in the box, and save. Then, go back to Compose a Message, and below the message box, you will see the Attach Signature, it will default to your first one, un-check if you want no signature, or select from the dropdown if you want one of your other signatures if you have multiples. That's it. |

Cool! That sounds pretty simple. These kind of instructions when new stuff is added will really go a long way in allowing the members to have a positive experience when visiting the BB, so keep it up and thanks!!!

I hate to be a PITA, but...(pun intended ) I'm a member of other sites that use PM systems. I'm able to right-click on the screen-name and select "Send PM" or something similar to send that member a PM without having to go through all the steps listed. Just my .02 for the next update. |

Dr. matt, yes there is a 15 minute grace period, and if you don't edit or delete in that window, it's too late. |
