I joined Facebook just a little while ago and was wondering if anybody else has an account there. Maybe this is the way of building a nationwide network of friends with disabilities who hunt and fish. I can use all the friends I get. If travel is ever in our plans, we could visit with another member for a day on the water or in the woods. Just a thought I had. What do you think? Rob

I have already posted this info in the Misc. Forum, but here it is. When I was joining facebook, a poll question "Do you hunt?" came up on the application site. I answered the question 'Yes", of course. Then an instructional came onto the page and requested that I change my vote, and if I did, I would have a chance to win a $1000.00 shopping spree at Wally-World. Of Course, I immediately removed all of my info, and got the hell off of facebook, as obv iously they are anti-hunting. I've tried to inform all of my club affiliations about this, and I would say to anyone who hunts, collects guns, or is simply a gun owner, DO NOT JOIN FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _______________________________________________________NRA LM, NAHC LM (2000), Second Amendment, DU, Buckmasters, NWTF, QDMA, and PROUD SC redneck REBEL for life. I have been invited by several members on this BB to join as their friends but have had to respectfully decline with an explaination. I have two friends here of which ones copmuter was infected with a series of serious viruses and the others computer did a complete crash and was so bad that after having a very good computer tech look at it had to trash it and buy a new computer as it was so infected with the various Trojan and Worm viruses that it would have cost more to repair than replace. His advice was if you are gonna open an account do not accept invites from people you do not know personally and whatever you do not open any of the ads or polls on the site. Even then if someone you do know invites you and their computer has been infected then you will be downloading the same. Just use care when using any of the new sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and any others.

    Exellent advice.
Funny how at one time I believed my own lies, but what was in my heart always exposed them!

Thanks for the advice and I am very conscious of accepting invitations only from those people with whom I have spoken. It was a real surprise to me just how many people responded to my invitations since making this post. I have friends from several different locations as well as the NAHC here. Originally I thought a website would be needed to accomplish what I wanted to do. Maybe that is to be further on down the line, but initially anyway Facebook might be just the ticket. Rob

Yesterday, ABC news, as well as the "News and Courier", Charleston's paper, had stories of how Facebook is riddled with viruses and worms. Paople are being warned NOT to sign up for Facebook due to the fact that it could potentially cause catastrophic computer crashes. Just so you guys can know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ______________________________________________________NRA LM, NAHC LM (2000), Second Amendment, DU, Buckmasters, NWTF, QDMA, and PROUD SC redneck REBEL for life. Hello everyone!

I am on Facebook. I think if you have a good quality anti-malware, anti-virus, and anti-spamware programs you should not have too many problems. Especially if you keep those programs updated regularly!  Also becarefull of the ads that popup and are on the side. They can and sometimes do contain viruses, worms, trojans, etc...   Another thing to watch out for is an alert will pop up saying your computer is infected and to "click here" to scan and to find out what is infecting your computer. Most of the time it is for fake Anti-Virus removal and it contains malware itself. I imediately escape and close the window and then do an imediate scan with one or all of my security programs to make sure nothing got onto my computer. You can find this type of malware on any website!   Yes, they can be found on any website!

My dad is mostly disabled. He has to use a walker and wear a brace on his left leg/foot because of a herniated disc that had rubbed up against the nerves and he had removed. His left foot tends to dip and turn inward causing him to loose his balance and fall. He also has some sort of inner ear problem that causes him to get Virtigo, Nausea, vomiting, ringing in his ear, ear seems like it is clogged up, and he has Dizziness.

I have a back condition called Spondylolisthesis or slippage of the spine. My spine is slipping forward off of the tailbone. I also have obesity, a form of Epilepsy, Depression, and my feet/ankels are swollen and hurt due to Venous Insufficiency.
When I stand or walk my back, my feet, and my legs hurt like heck. I then have to sit until the pain eases. But then my knees stiffen and hurt if I sit for too long. Also my back begins to tighten up and get little muscle spasms if cold air hits it or I sit for too long or I stand or walk for a certain amount of time.

Both dad and I still love to hunt. But dad is starting to talk about not hunting any more. He just turned 80 years young and with all of the health problems we both have there are not many places to hunt that are accessible for us. There are some hunts we would like to do together, but we do not have the $$$$ to be able to do them. Mainly because of our health problems and access to hunting areas, we would have to go on a guided hunt or have access to private land that could accomodate our needs.

I had an account on facebook too, took it down, to many problems and to many jerks trying to destroy other peoples stuff.
Why join a site that has all those problems ?

That's sort of the way I felt as I read accounts of various members and others who say they have had problems there.  I asked my wife several times not to even go on there where she was a friend on several girlfriend's accounts.  She finally agreed and I hope my computer didn't catch anything before she quit

I'm on FB...I honestly don't recall every answering a question about whether or not I hunt while signing up. It's safe so long as you don't accept friends who you don't know.

I am truly sorry to here the problems that many of you have experienced on facebook. I have been on facebook for quite some time. Many, if not most, of my friends are hunters and my wife and I run a   e-commerce business for hunting products and have done quite well with the business on facebook. There are also many hunting associations also active on facebook. This is not meant as a sale pitch, note I have not shared our web site, just our experience. Actually, as a lifetime member on NAHC since 1996 we have had only limited interest from NAHC in the forums we have written on. Facebook does have many active hunters and hunting associations.

You have to go to "deactivate my facebook.com", in order to get off of it.

I've been on FB for quite some time and have several hundred "friends" that I don't know because I play a couple of the games on there. My wife and 2 of my daughters do the same and we have never had a problem.

I too have been on Facebook for a while.  I never got a hunting question. I do not play Farmville, Farmtown, or any of the other games and have only people I know in real life as friends and have had no problems. It is like any relationship the more of yourself you "share" with a large number of strangers the more likely you'll get some kind of virus.
