Because of the recent drop in American hunters heading for Mexico, there are currently some bargains to be had in terms of pricing. Hunts for the big desert mule deer will always be expensive, but hunting Coues deer—one of my all-time favorite North American big game hunts—is as reasonably priced now as it ever has been. The same can be said for Gould’s wild turkeys and some upland bird hunts.
“One occurrence in the past couple of years is a slowing of interest in booking Sonoran Coues deer-only hunts by all but the small ‘cult’ of ultra-serious Coues deer hunters,” said booking agent Wade Derby of Crosshair Consulting. “For that reason, in the 2011-12 season hunters are going to be able to find some excellent pricing with some of the best outfitters, both for Coues deer-only hunts and adding a Coues buck to a mule deer package. This is a great time to be looking to pick up a top-end Coues deer hunt for budget money.”
I’ll be hunting them in at least two Mexican states this year. Why not join me?
