Here we go again. I don't have to ask you if you've noticed the price of gas lately. It's been rocketing skyward like rooster pheasant with a 1-year-old yellow Labrador on its tail. It really affects you and I as outdoor people, and the fact that right now there is no real reason for the hike other than speculation has me madder than a badger cornered in a barn.
Have you seen lines at the pumps due to fuel shortages? Are refineries running out of fuel to refine? Have they stopped shipping oil to America? "No" is the answer to all of these questions, yet speculators continue to drive the price of oil into the dizzy zone.
Rarely do I do something outdoors that a Prius can handle. Most of my business trips start with a truck and end on a muddy two-lane trail after an ATV ride to get me beyond where most people tread. If I'm not toting my ATV in my truck, I'm pulling my horse trailer. I rarely go to town to spend a day at the movies or shopping where a Prius might work. My work takes me outdoors, and on my time off I'd rather be lost in the outback hunting, hiking or horseback riding.
The current administration claims to be working on the economy. Taking a stab at spiking oil prices might fall into that category of bettering the economy and cementing national security.
Sorry old fellow, I'm trading you in for a Prius.
