Marlin's Model 338 MXLR, chambered in its new cartridge, the .338 Marlin Express, delivers the bone-crushing performance required to topple North America’s largest big game animals. This is a lever-action rifle on steroids, and stretches maximum lethal range to 300 yards and beyond. For weather resistance, all major components are crafted of stainless-steel, and the stock and fore-end are a distinctive two-tone laminate. Its extremely rugged stock has a full pistol grip and preinstalled sling swivel studs. Other features include side ejection, a solid-top receiver that’s tapped for scope mounts and fully adjustable sights.
The .338’s horsepower comes from bullets such as Remington’s 250-grain Core-Lokt soft-point, specifically designed to deliver the ultimate in terminal performance from the .338 Marlin Express cartridge. The bullet leaves the barrel at 2,189 fps and retains more than 1,500 foot-pounds of energy at 200 yards. This new cartridge/bullet combo puts some extra oomph into the lever-action format—perfect for hunting large game such as deer, elk, moose and bears in all types of terrain. For my Alberta hunt I topped the 338 MXLR with a low-riding Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40mm riflescope, making it the perfect compact mountain rifle/scope combo for rugged mountain terrain.
