3 lbs. stew meat (moose or other big game)
Oil
1 cup water
2 T. packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 T. paprika
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. sage
2 tsp. beef bouillon granules
3 to 4 onions
1 clove garlic
4 to 5 potatoes
6 to 8 carrots
2 to 3 turnips
1 bay leaf
3 cups barley
1 T. salt
1 tsp. pepper
2 cups peas
2 cups green beans
2 cups corn
2 cups mushrooms
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour

Remove silver skin from meat and cut into 3/4-inch cubes. Carefully brown meat in oil on medium high heat; remove from heat. Simmer 1 cup water, brown sugar, thyme, paprika, cinnamon, sage and bouillon. Microwave onions and garlic until tender; add to meat. Microwave potatoes, carrots and turnips in covered dish for 7 minutes on high; add to stew pot. Add meat, bay leaf, barley, salt, pepper and enough water to cover all. Add peas, beans, corn and mushrooms. Melt butter in saucepan and blend in flour; add to stew pot. Simmer for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
