According to whitetail biologist Dr. Grant Woods, BioLogic's Full Potential supplement uses a three-part delivery system designed to match a deer's physiology and help it ingest more vitamins and minerals. "Bag No. 1 contains high levels of salt,"he said. "In the spring when things start to green up, whitetails go from eating mostly dry matter to new plant growth, which contains a lot of water. Deer crave salt to help their kidneys process the water.

"Bag No. 2 is used when a buck's antlers start to grow rapidly and a doe needs high amounts of vitamins and minerals for her new-born fawns. This bag contains approximately 50 percent sodium and 50 percent mineral. At this time, a deer's diet doesn't need quite as much salt to process the liquid acquired from feeding."

Woods says bag No. 3 contains approximately 20 percent sodium and 80 percent minerals. "This bag should be used when a buck's antlers are growing leaps and bounds—during June and July when you can almost see them grow,"he said. "During this time, plant growth is maturing and deer don't need as much salt to help their kidneys process the liquid found in these plants."For deer to get to the salt, which they love, they have to lick through and ingest the minerals, which don't taste so good. It's kind of a layered treat—if they want the salt, they have to utilize the minerals on top of it.
