Im going to Canada for a black bear archery hunt. Never tried the Rage broad heads but been hearing a lot of them. Anyone use them on a bear hunt? What you think?

I have only shot three (3) deer with them. They make a heck of a hole. I like them; however, my hunting buddies all hate them. They complain about accuracy as the blades can open up while knocking the arrow, I have not had such problems. My hunting buddies have been hunting deer with archery tackle for a heck of a lot longer than I have so not sure my opinion is worth that much, but no one else had answered your post yet.

I use Rage as do most of my hunting buddies, on deer if you hit one they never go far. A friend did shoot a bear with one and had the same result but like all mechanical broadheads when you start to get to bigger animals they are not the greatest bone breakers and it seems alot of guys go with fixed blade.

Because of the fat and muscle mass of a decent black bear, fixed broadheads are recommended by most bear outfitters.

I tend to agree with Whiskers on this one. I've shot a lot of whitetails with them but I don't think I would attempt a bear?

Rage recently came out with the new Extreme 2.3 model that boasts the new metal break away "collar" instead of a rubber band to support the blades. They work very nice and gave me new confidence in shooting them last season. The deer I killed with them thought differently though! LOL!

I find all this interesting. I tried out bow hunting for the first time this past season and did not have so much as one shot worthy deer come out of hiding. I did have a little spotty withing 3 feet of me. It never knew I was there. It was so hot and dry that most of the deer movement was at night and I not having any experience hunting with a bow probably would have missed or spooked the deer anyways if I had one come out. I'm hoping to have better luck this season. I don't think I'll be going after a bear with a bow yet. I do plan on going after the bruin black with my mosin nagant sure to stop a freight train with all it .203 grains of furry.

Thanks for the input. I ve always shot the fixed blade(Thunderheads) but like you mentioned do to the fat on the bear. I started to consider the Rage and its cutting surface. Utube shows videos that make you think it would do the most damage.

thanks for your input,

Rob
