A couple of years ago I grouse hunted with a couple of guys that claimed to have seen a wolf as they were walking down the trail. No shots needed to be fired then, but clean undergarments were needed.

-CA,

Good to here from you again.

The above guys must have been very startled.  In my close encounters I was to busy yelling to have anything come out of the other end.

-MD

Mark, those above two guys were myself and CA's Father Tony. That wolf popped out so fast, and so close that Tony and I were both instinctively pulling up our shotguns... But the wolf was faster, and was gone before we got the guns to our shoulders... It happened pretty dang fast... Tony and I were left just starring at each other shaking our heads in disbelief at what had just happened I've seen many wolfs over the years, but can't recall ever having a closer encounter than Tony and I had that day, the exception possibly being the night I chased them away from my dogs, but it's a tough call to say which encounter was closer.

Tom, at that point in time I wasn't legal to shoot a wolf even if I were watching them attack my dogs. Pulling up the shotguns was more of an instinctive reflex than an intent to kill. Tho certainly not a lack of desire to kill, at least not on my part.
