Has anyone ever shot one of these rifles? I am specifically thinking about the DPMS Hunter. As a soldier I love AR rifles and am looking for another gun to fill out the area above my '06. Thoughts and experiences? SFC B

I would be ordering this straight from the manufacturer. I can wait if need be as this would be for my dream hunt/Moose of the future

Have you contacted DPMS to see if they would do such a thing. I would think in something as light as an AR, the push could be strong, but then the original was for 7.62x51.
Actually sounds interesting to me, one could have AR's to hunt everything. Let us know how it turns out, we would all get some of those "Vicarious" thrills if it works and you are successful.

A friend shot a moose a few years ago with a 338 fed and it worked fine. It is really not a step up from an 06 but it would be fun rifle to have.

You are right. After looking at the ballistics it wouldn't be any increase in range or power
abranch,
DPMS does stock rifles in 338. I love the AR but since I found out the ballisitcs I may have to rethink my choice.
