Metzler...
Have you personally been to Ray's in Newfoundland? I am seriously considering his camp for a moose hunt. Can you tell me what I should watch out for or have included in the contract? What did you most like about Ray's that made you decide to use his outfit?

I hunted with Ray in November of 2012 .You can see the video of my hunt on both Ray's web site and North American Hunting club site . I was the contest winner for the great moose hunt last year .We saw animals every day .His hunting area is close to the camp ,he has great equippmemt and the guides are terrific .He has a full time chef that lives in the camp and provides you with terrific meals .The camp is roomy and comfortable .The whole experience was better than i could have ever imagined .My hunt was the last one of the year out of his camp and there were plenty of moose around .I hunted with Joe Jerivcious and you can see the video of his hunt on the same web sites as my hunt .I would highly recomend Ray's to anyone .I am hoping to return to Ray's in the future for another moose hunt . |

OK...saw you and the video...CONGRATS!...glad everything worked out. I'll probably go with Ray just because of the expression on your face!!
We spend a lot for these hunts....both in prep time and the funding...you should feel excited and as happy as a kid on his first deer hunt. Once again, glad to see things worked out!
By the way, what's your favorite moose recipe? I've improved on my grilled steaks, chillis and stews with elk and deer over the years but never tried moose. This will be my first. Any tips or favorite recipes? Does Ray's outfit prepare moose and other wild game for meals? For some reason, outfitters don't usually serve game....
Also, fantastic filming....did Ray film the hunt or did you have someone, who accompanied you, do the filming. If so, what did they charge? Photography is one area I definitely need to improve in!
Thanks,

Thanks ,it actually felt better than the first deer hunt .It was a big accumplishment for me .I found out that the vision loss in my dominate right eye was permenant on the smae day i found out i won the trip .I had 2 months to learn how to shoot left handed . The chef will cook moose if someone wants to give up some of theirs .Moose meat has more of a beef flavor and is totally different than venison .I think the moose is terrific in a crock pot .We eat a lot of it cooked in a crock pot with some onions on the bottom and the meat on top cooked for several hours and then add some carrots ,patatoes ,and some celery and cook for another 3 or 4 hours .I had some burger patties made by the processor and they are excellent .My wife thinks the moose meat is better than the venison she has eaten for the last 40 years . The filming was done by Terry Boeder who is the lead video producer for North American Hunting .The video is a short trailer for the TV show that will air when the hunting shows return to NBC sports network in the fall .He is an excellent film maker and a terrific guy .After i harvested my moose i spent a lot of time with him while he filmed woodland caribue. Terry is a true professional and a great guy. If there is anything else i can help you with dont hesitate to ask because I get to relive the hunt each time i talk about it Have a Happy Easter |
