I would like to find out what the real deal is with firearms ownership and being a felon. Does anyone really know what the real truth is about this subject?? I have been told so many different answers to this question that I have no idea what the truth is about this subject matter.
Can someone that knows the real truth about this subject please give us the real answer to this question. I have been told that you can own a gun if you have a felony but it is not a violent crime,I have been told that you can own a gun as long as it is not a pistol, I have been told that nobody with a felony can own a gun, I have been told that anyone no matter what your arrest record is can own and use a black powder gun,( even a pistol.)
I have been told by police officers and lawyers different answers to this question so who really knows that real truth about ownership of firearms and being a felon??

Please give us the right answer to this very serious question.

see if this works for ya:

If this post does not satisfy your Q rhen look this up:18 U.S.C. 922(g)

Federal law provides significant penalties for felons in possession of weapons, unless the felon has his rights restored by the convicting state.

on Oct 4, 2008

Hand Gun - Svend Damsgaard

Anyone who has been convicted of a felony is banned by federal law from ever possessing “any firearm or ammunition." Specifically a person "convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year" cannot possess any firearm in any location. 18 U.S.C. 922(g) is the federal law that prohibits anyone ever convicted of any felony to ever possess any firearm either inside or outside of his home. The federal punishment for felon gun possession is up to 10 years in prison.

There are many other federal gun ownership restrictions. For example, a conviction for a misdemeanor domestic battery results in a loss of gun rights. A person who is the subject of an order of protection may not possess a weapon. In light of the 2008 case of District of Colombia v. Heller, such restrictions may now have Second Amendment implications. A good summary is available from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The Statutory Exception

The rule prohibiting felon gun ownership has some exceptions. There is specific statutory language providing that the federal criminal firearms possession does not apply to individuals who have had their civil rights restored by the state in which they where convicted of the felony.

Two Tales has given the answer the best it can be given .It's about the same as when I was in collage taking law classes .You can get convicted for a felony as a teenager and that stays with you unless you get a pardon from the Governor of the state .

This is how felons with a firearm get treated. We need more firearm laws...right.

Reckless injury

Brandyn M. “Beasley” Stevens, 23, 15470 Salter Drive-No. 28, Hayward, pleaded no contest and was found guilty of first-degree felony reckless injury by firing 7 shots into the legs of a 26-year-old LCO man Jan. 1, 2012 outside the LCO Clubhouse on Highway E.  An associated charge of possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony was dismissed and read in.  Judge Wright ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be completed by March 15. Stevens will be sentenced on April 4

The legal system is way to easy on these felons I read in the liberal rag post dispatch yesterday that the city of St. Louis is considering a Court docket for just gun crimes it sounds like a great idea but they have to get all parties to agree to it the cops, judges, lawmakers. Its way past time that something needs to be done about the justice system if your a felon and you get caught with a gun locked up for life no parole no chance to get out and commit more senseless crimes

Hell, down here the only people who actually get sent to jail are juveniles or murderers (if we can get a jury to convict). Every one else gets sentenced to probation and time served, regardless of the charges. I personally know three people who have been charged with various burglary and drug crimes, and the most any of them have spent in jail has been about 3 months when they couldn't raise bail before going to court. One of them has killed both her first husband, and a lover, along with stealing computers from a school where she was a teacher, and the local hospital. She was just arrested for stealing from the Baptist Church, where she was caught in the act, and is already out of jail on bond, while serving probation for previously breaking into a residence where she stole guns and tools.........and this was while she was out on another probation for stealing a doctor's prescription pad and forging his signature and getting drugs from several pharmacies, including one where her sister is a pharmacists assistant!!!!!!!!!!

We have no judicial system, and most of our cops are as crooked as the people they (sometimes) arrest!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Pa. it doesn't even have to be felony to make you a prohibited person. ANY crime punishable by more than one year in jail will do it. And you don't have to do the year, just be convicted of said offense.

A DUI will keep you from going to CN to hunt!
Dam DA's use the mandantory sentencing associated with having a firearm in commission of a crime to plea bargain or rat out.....giving criminals shorter sentences as a standard practice....

BTW, current Fed Law makes it a felony to sell a firearm as an individual to an individual you may have reason to suspect is a felon or mentally incapacitated-----so why do we need a "universal" background check law? WE DON'T!!!

There already 22,000 Federal firearms laws, why do we need another one? How about enforcing the ones that already exist!!!!!

How about reading the constitution and then getting rid of the ones that violate it. Won't be much left to enforce and I will feel much better. Not that anyone has that purpose, but just saying.
