Hi all, I haven't been around much lately. I had car accident on 1/31. The car's not too bad but I have 4 fractures in my lower spine. I'm not up and around a whole lot these days and on the net even less but just wanted to check in and let you know that you hadn't gotten rid of me... just granted a hiatus... So far they're just saying that it's going to take time. |

Uh huh ! The new toy done got away from you didn't it ? As long as the fractures are small enough then time will take care of them so you have to do as they tell you and stay still as much as possbile and time will tell. |

Take it easy for a while to let the healing occur. |

Prayers sent. I know what a beach recovery can be. Hope your recovery period isn't as long as mine was. Over time the pain will decrease. But just because it doesn't hurt don't mean ya can go play football. Follow doctors orders do any PT they want you to do. And things WILL get better. Just set small goals and work on that then set another and before you know it you'll be chasin the old lady around the house again. |

steve, Just saw the post about you car accident. I have been wondering how you were doing because of the bad storm you had up your way. a car accident was the farthest from my thoughts. I thank GOD you weren't hurt any worse. A back injury is bad enough I'm sure but what I mean is: you're still with us. GOD speed to you and ours Prayers are for your Full recovery and no lingering effects. As the other friends have said, don't rush it, trust the doctors, and know that we are supporting you daily. |

Thanks all. Thank heaven - no, not the Vette! It's sleeping for the winter. My '03 Escape. Horiz or vert fractures? No clue, I'll have to ask the spine guy when I see him. Gut: NOWHERE NEAR what you went through! Compared to that, this is a walk in the park. Thanks all though for kind wishes and cautions. Believe me, I'm taking this VERY seriously! I'd rather be out of commission for a few months than forever. Certainly gives you time to do a complete self analysis. Sometimes it ain't purdy either...lol Biggest thing that's bugging me is that I can't be up without the brace on. It's a hard brace that goes on both my stomach and pretty much whole back and it can't get wet... ergo - no shower! YUCK! Anyhow, thanks again.... just figured I'd give fair warning that... "I'll be back..." ;-) (just may be a bit) |

Yeah Jeff, I recall. I do what the Drs say - period. I ain't screwing around with my back. Also taking the time to quit drinking. When I'm able, I plan on starting a walking routine as well. My Fam. Dr. has been trying to get me to drop about 20-25 pounds so I figure I may as well attack that as well. Once I heal up, I'm going to sign up to be a NYS Hunter Ed. Instructor as well. Everything in due time though. |

Glad to hear it wasn't the new toy. Good luck with the healing process, and will there be any rehab? I'll tell you this, when I had my L-3 fusion and disc replacement, I was able to walk the length of the Hospital hall, the next day. Prior to the surgery, I couldn't walk 10 feet without stopping due to the pain. |

Thanks Ron. As for rehab, not sure - I saw so many freekin' Drs while was in the hosp that I don't recall what most of 'em said... A lot of concern about low blood sodium. I know the 4 fractures are in the lumbar region but they said that surgery wasn't going to be required. There was also a small chip but they said that should just be re-assimilated somehow....whatever.... no knives works for me! Gotta go see the spine guy in a couple of weeks and they also wanna do a bone density test 'cause they said the impact I was in (seatbelt on of course) shouldn't have really busted 4 disks. I had no problem at all in the hosp. with the brace on. Even did stairs....one at a time of course. As with most things; given time, this too shall pass |

Thanks guys. No choice but to do what I'm told - the back's nothing to screw with. At least no knives required.... so far at least. Tom, I hear ya but it's still pristine. Just sleeping in the garage until I'm able... I'm thinking May at the earliest... but things could have always been much worse. Thanks again all |
