DHS Purchases 21.6 Million More Rounds of Ammunition

Federal agency has now acquired enough bullets to wage 30 year war

The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone, figures which have stoked concerns that the federal agency is preparing for civil unrest.

A solicitation posted yesterday on the Fed Bid website details how the bullets are required for the DHS Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico.

The solicitation asks for 10 million pistol cartridge .40 caliber 165 Grain, jacketed Hollow point bullets (100 quantities of 100,000 rounds) and 10 million 9mm 115 grain jacketed hollow point bullets (100 quantities of 100,000 rounds).

The document also lists a requirement for 1.6 million pistol cartridge 9mm ball bullets (40 quantities of 40,000 rounds).

An approximation of how many rounds of ammunition the DHS has now secured over the last 10 months stands at around 1.625 billion.

To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.

Such massive quantities of ammo purchases have stoked fears that the agency is preparing for some kind of domestic unrest. In 2011, Department of Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to prepare for a mass influx of immigrants into the United States, calling for the plan to deal with the “shelter” and “processing” of large numbers of people.

The federal agency’s primary concern is now centered around thwarting “homegrown terrorism,” but information produced and used by the DHS to train its personnel routinely equates conservative political ideology with domestic extremism.

A study funded by the Department of Homeland Security that was leaked last year characterizes Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists.

In August 2012, the DHS censored information relating to the amount of bullets purchased by the federal agency on behalf of Immigration & Customs Enforcement, citing an “unusual and compelling urgency” to acquire the bullets, noting that there is a shortage of bullets which is threatening a situation that could cause “substantial safety issues for the government” should law enforcement officials not be adequately armed.

As we highlighted last month, the DHS’ previous ammunition solicitation was awarded to Evian Group, an organization that was formed just five days before the announcement of the solicitation and appeared to be little more than a front organization since it didn’t have a genuine physical address, a website, or even a phone number.

While Americans are being browbeaten with rhetoric about the necessity to give up semi-automatic firearms in the name of preventing school shootings, the federal government is arming itself to the teeth with both ammunition and guns. Last September, the DHS purchased no less than 7,000 fully automatic assault rifles, labeling them “Personal Defense Weapons.”

Civil unrest is exactly what they're preparing for. It all makes sense; has for a while. Gun registration, gun bans, no doubt eventual confiscation, magazine limits, and DHS buying automatic rifles along with millions upon millions of round of ammo. We're in for a ride...

This has my head spinning. Wasn't the DHS formed after 9/11 to deal with terrorist issues? I had just assumed they would be more of an intellegence gathering agency like the CIA. Now I am reading about them doing what other agencys should be doing like the gun collector in Cal. in confiscating his guns. You would think that would be a job for the ATF. We have our armed forces, Army, Navy, etc. for national defense, Border Patrol and Coast guard for our borders, Police, Sherrif Dept., Highway Patrol for local issues, then we have the National Guard and then Feema, also the FBI, and CIA. I thought the DHS was formed to help these different agencys in sharing their information with each other and not as a seperate security force. Now I am wondering how many DHS agents do we have to be needing that many personal defense weapons and ammo? Will they next start requisting their own drone aircraft?

Do you honestly believe they don't already have a fleet of drones????????? I'd be willing to bet that somewhere there is a record being kept that can tell every time you flush the toilet. We are monitored, videoed, and photographed every time we drive, enter a business or a public building. Ever notice that your drivers license, CWP, and even your computer and telephones all have bar codes on them? Just as a retail establishment uses those bar codes to track inventory, we are being tracked by some eye in the sky. Think about it, how does the Federal Government know when a child pornography collector has items on his home computer!! Every time a computer is turned on, there's an agency somewhere that has your ISP address and monitors what sites you search, what sites you visit, and what you read or post on those sites. Big Brother is watching us and 1984 is now!!!!!!!!!

RT you know how I have been warning folks for a few years and have been called names, and ignored but it appears that more folks should have listening. The thing with stuff like the drones is by the time they go public with info they are already years down the road with new stuff that won't be acknowlwdged till years have passed. I would imagine that there a several places around the country that house these drones and their ground support crew. With them being used in the current wars and the commands being given from this country makes this a given. The current climate in our country is the results of years of planning by the authorities and they had years before that to start the planning before giving any public knowledge of it being a fact rather than an urban myth. PREPARE YOURSELVES !!!!!

To the many that question why ammo prices skyrocketed, not all is price gouging. Our own government is buying up so much and 1 reason is to inflate the price civilians will have to pay. If they can't take your guns they will limit your ammo, 1 way or the other. Government agencies can buy and stockpile ammo with no constitutional complaints from any in the media and step up training exercises to justify the purchases.

Take note of the calibers that are being bought such as the 9MM, .40, and the .223 which happens to be what the majority of gun owners tend to own. I encourage everyone to start picking up all the brass you can when at the range and anywhere esle where a lot of ammo is fired. By doing this and buying the reloading equiptment and supplies you can then reload as much as you can afford to reload. I don't own a MSR so .223 ammo is not one I need for my firearms nor do I own either a 9MM or .40 caliber handgun. I do pickup all the brass that looks to be good enough for reloading when at the public shooting range here. I pickup all of the brass then sort it when I get home and the stuff that is not reloadable I throw in a 5 gallon bucket so I can take it to the scrap yard and sale it and then use that money to buy either new ammo or reloading supplies.

It must be nice to have a public shooting range in the area! The closest one to me is in a state WMA, and is for shotgun and rifle only. By regulation when an individual uses it, they must police their hulls and brass and take them when they leave. That's why my brother and I have our own target range set up in his yard.

And Steel Candy, I think you are spot on with your comment!!!!!!!
