In Arizona. Rabbit season is open all year round. However, we don't eat them until it gets cold. They breed like crazy all year. We have cottontails, along with two breeds of jackrabbit in the desert. They are blacktail, and antelope jacks. The antelope jackrabbits are the ones you hear about getting the size of house cats with huge ears. They aren't really rabbits. They are actually hares. Looks the same to me with the exception of the size of the ears. Most people won't eat the jacks. The meat is tough and stringy. They make for some great target practice. In close with 22's. Long range for centerfire.
