It's bad enough that the local Gander Mountain store (Plattsburgh) can't get a back ground check done in less than 7 days if your lucky. Now back ground checks for ammo it'll take a year to buy a box of .22 shells. Hate to say it but thank you Vermont is so close.Seems like Adolf Cuomo is pushing his plans to control everything in NY, what next for him the Whitehouse.

Can't believe a background check took that long. Worked for GM while back....if check was delayed, would do a "proceed" after 3. Delays were from the feds....
New York State Rifle & Pistol Assoc has already filed one of I'm sure are several law suits against Herr Cuomo & his gun law. Let's hope it works. Making us pay for a Constitutional right!! Amongst other crap...

The background check was for a friend and after 10 days he told keep it he was going somewhere else and bought a single shot 410 at Dicks 2 days and has his gun. I'm all for backgrounds check still not sure how the guy holding that young kid ever was able to get a gun then to hear he was shooting at people before.Thats the type of people who are causing crap for everyone else who goes by the rules. Some DA should be brought up on charges of their own for not following thru.

The federal background checks should only take minutes if there is no problem, if there is a delay the seller is told that. If a no problem sale is taking longer than that it must be something in your state laws or requirements.

Wait until next spring when you have to do that for a box of ammo. Prices will go way up. Retailers will claim they use too much manpower doing the checks. You will not be able to buy ammo through mail order. When all of this is implemented, you will have to choose between going to the range and going on vacation. It will be pretty certain that people in the sproting goods industry will lose jobs. The DECis trying toencourage hunting, but, you won't even be able to buy a box of shells.
I think we should start calling it "The Umpire State". Lots of bad calls made by people without much vision.

My brother and I just keep stocking up. Any chance we get we're buying ammo for our guns before the ammo background check goes into effect next year. If we weren't getting that nor'easter I'd be headed to Bass Pro this weekend to get some more.

And yes, Cuomo has his eye on the White House for 2016. That's why he ran for governor. His father was going to make a run for the oval office, but got voted out as gov of NY. Kind of hard to have any credibility as a presidential candidate when that happens.

I have high hopes the Andrew will be a one term govenor. As for ammo stocking, the shelves at Bass Pro are pretty bare. The sales people there say they can't get it fast enough. While I was there, a guy was tring to buy a Ruger 10/22. They didn't have that in the store. The counter guy said the store policy will be to not stock any semi-auto that can hold more than 5 rounds. The gun racks and cases there have changed a lot. Everything that they no longer sell will mean more lost jobs down the road. Cuomo's political ambitions are going to cost New Yorkers a lot. How much longer do we have to suffer through him?

A true "Background check" is simply that; To see if you are qualified to purchase ammo. This check is much more. As I understand it, records will be kept which makes it "Ammo registration". Now the government has a record of what you purchased and thus will know what firearms you own. This will make purchasing ammo much more difficult as many retailers won't want to comply and will choose to stop selling it. Fewer retailers = higher prices and places still more roadblocks to responsible gun owners.
