Is this okay to do? I don't want to try it until I know it won't screw anything up. |

Yes, no problem. I wouldn't shoot it through an extra-full turkey choke, but only because it patterns better in my gun through a modified choke. |

Any fixed choke barrel will handle buckshot, just as any interchangeable choke will. The factor is in how each particular gun patterns a certain brand or size of buckshot that determines what is shot from a certain gun. Some of mine handle #1, better than 00, and some pattern best with a modified, while others do better with full. I have also used an x-tra full turkey choke when doing pattern testing (it worked out perfectly with a 20 gauge Mossberg pump), so just get some different brands and sizes, and shoot 'em to see what works best in your gun. |

It's real easy, go with a full choke and shoot either double aut or triple aut. plain and simple. If the deer is running like you are driving, remember to LEED it. If it is standing still empty the gun into it. Buckshot does not normally leave a blood trail
Use to use buck shot would rather use slugs with a scope and a rifled barrel

Just shot the same combination this morning with full choke installed with 00 buck on some turkeys. Three birds with five shots and no damage to choke. |

Why shoot buckshot for turkey? #5 or #6 shot is all it takes with a full or X-tra full turkey choke. Did you have any meat left after using buckshot, or was you pattern tight enough to keep the entire load in the head? |

Pattern was plenty tight enough at 20 yards for head shots. I live in Kansas, and we are allowed up to 4 birds during fall season, ends 1/31/13. They have pissed me off a little, they have taken over one of my honey holes for deer. I didn't plan on using buckshot, but I grabbed the wrong case of shells when we left the house in the morning |

Don't you hate that? Stinking Turkey's! Last year I was watching a herd of 7 or so deer (does) were coming down a draw toward me and my friend who was just around the hill from me at first light. I figured I would hold off shooting until we could both see the heard and try to take two (txting is amazing.) I had heard the turkeys behind me in the roost, but usually they fly away from us into the open fields on top of the ridge behind us. Not that morning, 15 or so of the stupid things came crashing out of the tree (as turkey's do) and piled into the side of the hill of the draw the deer were walking down. Of course, the deer all ran off, away from us. In the part of Maryland I live in 1) you can't hunt Turkeys in the fall and 2) can't whack them with a rifle any time of the year. I really wanted to however. The good news is that after the pests wandered off (I love to hunt them in the spring so they change from pests to good things then) the deer wandered back down the hill, but this time turned up the draw they came down earlier in the morning. Since my friend could not see them and they were not going to come down where he could, I picked out a nice fat doe and flattened her. jack

Wow a case of shells, they really pissed you off.
I shoot a Remington 11-87 with a full choke tube. Not sure which is which but I shoot the 3" buck shoot with the most pellets either 00 buck or 000 buck.
Basically you are going to point /aim and pull the trigger. Aim for the shoulder or lead for the shoulder. They will hit the deer. Like to stay under 30 yards. Again if you can go to slugs.

I've never had turkeys interfere with deer, so I can't relate to your bad experiences. Normally, they will feed right along with each other, and the coons, rabbits, and squirrels are right there with them. It must be nice to have fall turkey season! |

I have two roll around cases that I keep ammo in. Just grabbed the wrong one when we left in the morning. I have got several pictures of turkeys and deer feeding together. But now the original 30 turkeys, two years ago, has grown to about 300 turkeys at one of my honey holes. It used to be when I would pull the cards on my cameras about 90% of the pics were of deer and about 10% turkey, coons, etc. Now that ratio has been completely reversed. If anyone lives in Kansas and wants to shoot some turkeys, let me know. I think the season ends on January 31st. |

Damn, I only know of one place where I can go see anywhere near 300 turkeys in one place. That's on a plantation where we get to hold a man drive once per year for deer, and the owner won't let anyone turkey hunt on the place. I sure wish Kansas wasn't so damn far away..........and cold!!!!!!!!!! |

Its not that cold. Generally takes about two hours. Last time out we got 21 between 7 of us. Would like to get the numbers down to 100 by the end of fall season. Don't think its going to happen. Taking another group out this weekend. |

Hell, we also only have a two per day limit when our spring season does come in, with a maximum of 5 birds per season. Here in the state that's the home of the NWTF, it's obvious that our turkey population doesn't come anywhere near what you have out there. |
