Losing a LOT of people who love the area but can't stand the liberal a-holes that the City keeps electing, the taxes are totally out of control and now the laws. My main mission this summer according to my wife is for me to find places we may want to relocate to when she retires.

melissa4: I was addressing Holly, he has been here to my place before. But I will be more than happy to be able to help you, and any other member too. As long as thing don't change drastically here.

Back ground checks for ammo, my local Gander Mountain store can't do a back ground check for a firearm in less than 7 days how will they be able to handle checks on a box of .22 ammo. Thank You for Vermont it's only 30 mins away

Thanks t1. I didn't mean to intrude, I was soughta making a general statement. A few years back, along with my family, we purchased a home near the water in SC. I've yet to spend time there but I think I'm going to make a point of it and look at a few places in the western part of the state. My folks spend a lot of time there and love the people, the area, and the economy. My main concern would be to find an area that won't be encroached upon in the next ten or twenty years.

What is up with the run on 22 ammo? After reading about people having trouble finding 22LR I thought I would check it out. I went to Gander 2 days ago and sure enough they were sold out of 22LR except for about 10 boxes of bird shot. I am in Wichita, Ks.

In reading the Outdoor page in my Sundy paper a few weeks ago I was surprised to read about propesed changes in next year deer season. The KDWP is proposing to do away with the 23cal. min. and to make any center fire ammo legal. Also are to do away with min. bullet length for handguns. This would make that 223 AR 15 legal for deer hunting and also make a 25cal. handgun legal. I don't have a problem with the current standards, I just wish they would let me buy a second buck tag.

Melissa4, there aren't many places in SC left that aren't being rapidly encroached upon. We appear headed in the same direction as Florida, where the natives will be outnumbered by the transplants. BTW, you stated you own a home on the water down here. Might I inquire as to where it's located? I'm just wondering if it's near my part of the state.

its a nation wide panic its ammo guns reloading equipment and components its all things AR its all things firearms related happened the first time Oshame-a got in this time its worse than last time I was in bass pro the other day and they only had about 10 handguns in the case was told by a friend they they are holding them back waiting for price increases now I don't know if this is true but I would not put it past them. been to all the gun show in my area 4 of them to be exact and it is unbelievable what is going on price gouging is running rapid and the crowds it really something to see went to one show and they had 6,500 pay 10 buck apiece to get in a lot of people getting rich off us law abiding folks

rt4 I have a house in Surfside Beach, a hair south of Myrtle and a two minute drive to the boardwalk. My folks are down there now as they go back and forth to Columbia where my sister just purchased a home. I know what you mean when you mention the same direction as Florida, but west of 95 I might be able to get in a few good years. Maybe not compared to what you're used to, but a heck of a lot better than where I'm at now.

I live about 15 miles Southwest of I-95 in one direction and about 18 miles West in another. I don't even know most of the people in this small town, and I grew up here. There are more transplanted yankees here than native white people. Of course in our case all of us are outnumbered 9-1 by blacks, and even a huge percentage of them are from either NJ or Detroit!!!!!!!!!!! The good part about my area is we are in the best game zone (at least for now) in the state, as far as limits, baiting, and running hounds are concerned. BTW, I've actually only been to Myrtle Beach, twice and both times I stayed in Surfside Beach. I keep wanting to go up there and visit the BassPro Shop. I heard their restaurant is pretty good, but then there are a lot of good restaurants in the area. Next time you're down, you should get in touch. We could meet in Charleston, which is about 1/2 way between MB and Hampton, for a meet and greet.

Much obliged for the invite Mr rt4. Hopefully we'll meet in person one day. I would be interested in moving to small town USA but I would not want to be surrounded by canadians from NJ, Detroit, or even NY for that matter. I would appreciate your opinion on some of the better hunting areas of the state as I am googling areas blindly online. My sister has experienced the yankee influx in Columbia, but believe it or not, in Surfside Beach there seems to be more of a local atmosphere with dabs of transplants like my folks here and there. The transplants are from NY and Cincinnati but they are the ones that seem to appreciate and respect the tone of life in the area. I also wouldn't want to relocate from NY and wind up living next to "my cousin vinny".

Go to the SCDNR site and research the game zones. I live in game zone six, which is the coastal low country area, which encompasses Berkely, Charleston, Dorchester, Calhoun, Orangeburg, Bamberg, Colleton, Beaufort, Hampton, Allendale, and Barnwell counties. I believe your house is located in Georgetown county, which is in game zone 5 and also includes Williamsburg, Clarendon,Sumter, Lee, and Darlington counties. These are the two game zones with the longest seasons in the state, and the best bag limits. Clarendon, Orangeburg, and Colleton have some of the highest deer per acre in the state, with Hampton and Allendale close on their heels. There is still enough available farm land and timber real estate available in these areas that any interested individual should be able to live a fairly secluded existence if that's what they prefer. As a matter of fact, for a small fee of about 2.5 million I happen to know of nice little plantation right here in Hampton county that's for sale. I believe it's a little over 10,000 acres and is prime deer and turkey, as well as dove, and duck habitat.

We are slowly but surely being over run with folks from up North and believe it or not Florida as well. I live about 12-14 miles from the town I grewup in and very rarely go there anymore because it is now so big and I don't ever see anybody I grewup with. The total population when I was a kid was around 1500 that lived within the city limits and now the city is so big that there is no county area in between the other towns anymore. Back then I either knew you or were related to you. I remember when everybody always talked about moving to a bigger town then but now it is the big town. The reason .22 ammo is so hard to find is that more peo-ple own .22's than other calibers. In another few years I will have my home paid off and then I will be looking to move further north here to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
