I am looking for a camo hunting vest that will hold .410 shotshell in a rather large size 3x min so I can use it in winter also. This is primarly for squirrel hunting. I goggle it and don't get any results for a camo one or .410.

What you might want to do is get a regular hunting vest and then sew the loops closed such that they fit the .410s. If you have access to decent seamstress, they should be able to do it pretty quick. If you do it yourself, make sure you do not sew something else closed that you do not want closed. It will look like you can simply sew down the center of a 12-gauge opening and make two spots for your .410. If you do that, be aware that the rims on the shells will not fit nice at the top when you put them side by side in the two holes. If that is ok by you then you can get twice as many .410s in your vest than what it was designed for in 12-gauge. If you do not like that, then just sew the left side of the hole closed for each pocket and then you will have a lot of space between the shells so the rims do not interfere. As a bonus, it will also be easier to grab a single shell with a gloved hand. Anyway, the last thing you should do is sew all the way across the bottom of the holes to make the depth of the hole such that the top of the shells you are using always are above the top of the hole. I hate it when my .410s get pushed down below the top of the hole, gloved hand or not it is a pain in the behind to push them out.

Hope this helps.

I sent an email to Ugly Dog Hunting asking if they made a vest with loops for a .410. Dee their reply below. I guess you had better get the sewing kit out

Hi Jack

I’m not sure where to find the vest you describe. Most are made with 12 ga loops. He might try tightening the loops by stitching them tighter.
We do not carry a 3x vest in camo.

Thanks

It is too cold for a vest when I do most my shot gunning----just keep blind bag open and pull out more rounds....too warm for a vest during dove season so just set a box on the ground......in turkey season, I do wear a vest but it ain't got no loops on it, just pockets......squirrel hunt with some .22's in my pocket.....limit is just six, don't take up enuff room to keep my smokes out....410 wud fit also....
