Montana is a big state. 50% larger than Colorado give or take. Since you mentioned going to school I'm guessing that means Missoula or Bozeman but could also mean a lot of other towns. I've hunted most of the state and would be happy to suggest either places directly or how to scout it out quickly. Also, put a call in to the regional fish and game office and ask to talk to a biologist. While they won't give you exact locations they will give you important details like buck to doe ratios, what you're likely to find for age class, etc. Its a cheap way to gain insight on an area. Finally, block management {1}**** or miss but I've had some good luck so long as I did my homework - namely looking at google earth to be sure its not a barren piece of dirt. If they limit hunter numbers and it looks like good habitat its a good bet you'll find game.

He goes to school in Bozeman. We hunted a few BMA areas. did not have much luck there to many people had been in those areas and the deer were scarce.

I'm inclined to send you towards White Sulphur Springs and/or Martinsdale.  Its about an hour and a half away from Bozeman but there are a lot of deer in that area including both whitetail and mule deer. I don't know if there's a private message feature in this forum (I haven't found one) but I'd be willing to give you specific hunting spots via email.

I know we won't mine driving or working hard to get a good deer. I live in Vermont and you don't get a deer here without hard work. any suggestions would be great my email is Ryan.White@GMCR.com. thank you again for your input.
