if not mistaken it's printed on the cylinder (should be two, one for .357 and .38sp and one for 9mm)..and should state 9mm Lugar...for further info visit rugars web site and down load a copy of the owner/operators manual...

WELL SIR , I DO KNOW A LOT ABOUT THE PISTOL THAT YOU HAVE .. IT SHOULD HAVE 2 DIFFERENT CYCLINDERS WITH IT ..(1) FOR 357MAG/38SP AND (1) FOR 9MM.. NO ONE CYCLINDER FOR ALL AMMO.. 9MM IS .355DIA AND 38/357 IS .356/.357 .. AND THE 9MM BRASS WILL NOT WORK IN THE CYCLINDER FOR THE 38/357.. SO YOU SIR MUST HAVE (2) CYCLINDER'S.. THE PISTOL IS STILL MADE BY STRUM RUGER COMPANY.. SO YOU MITE SEND THEM AN EMAIL OR CALL THEM TO ASK THEM MORE ABOUT YOUR PISTOL.. LM NAHC , LM NRA , LM NATIONAL MATCHSHOOTERS ASSC.. AND RETIRED USMC SNIPER.. SEMPER FI..

Welcome to the boards rawman.
The 9mm ammunition will be any 9mm Luger ammunition. You must have the correct cylinder to shoot 9mm ammunition from your firearm. 38 Spcl and 357 mag. ammunition seats, or head spaces, on the rim of the shell casing and the cylinder is designed for this. 9mm ammunition is considered rimless, the rim of the shell casing does not extend out past the diameter of the rest of the case. 9mm ammunition head spaces on the edge of the case mouth. The 9mm cylinder will be bored to a slightly smaller diameter .355 vs .357 and there will be a visible edge for the 9mm case mouth to seat on. 38 Spcl & 357 mag ammunition should not be able to fit in the 9mm cylinder and 9mm ammunition won't fit in the 38/357 cylinder.

the combo .357 amg, .38 sp and 9mm all use the 9mm lugar which btw has at least 3 distinctions...lugar, parabelium and 9mm...one last thing..besure that on the back (frame side) of each of the cylinders that the numbers match the last 3 digits of your gun's serial number..if the don't do not shoot it until you have talked to a rep at Ruger...no numbers means that the gun was a put together by someone not qualified just to boost the price...

You may have to wait 9 months to a year for ammunition availability to get back to a somewhat level status again. Right now everyone is running scared and buying up all the ammunition, firearms, and reloading components they can get their hands on.
