Hey guys I'm new to this site and fairly new to bow hunting this past deer season was only my second season. However I fell in love with bow hunting and don't want to stop just because I can no longer hunt deer. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried hunting coyotes with a bow and if you have if you could share any advice? Thanks |

Ok, I'm confused? If you can't hunt deer, how can you hunt yotes? I shoot the yotes out of my treestand, while deer hunting. Don't see them very often though, but when I do it's right at first shooting light. Welcome to the club. |

That's a challenge for sure. I would love to hear where this leads. I also want to hunt coyotes with my bow but have trouble bringing them in close enough. I have heard that sitting near a gut pile will get you close enough but havn't had the opportunity yet. It would be nice to have something to hunt after the deer season is over. |

Well welcome pederson! I will assume you can't hunt deer anymore cause the seasons over? I get it, try any call, I use a comeer deer call and get them within 20yds. getting to full draw is the challenge. Give yourself some good cover with the wind at your back and get ready I say... |

Glad your'e paying attention yote, since predators most always come in downwind, if you have the wind in your face you will most likely never see 90% of the critters responding to the call. When you have the wind at your back and can hopefully have a visual on incoming predators coming from the side so you can prepare for the shot before they bust you. I know it doesn't feel right, but it is effective. I use the fawn in distess call with a lot of sucess. Good hunting! |

yes the deer season is over in Iowa, where I live, but coyote season is open year round I've just heard their coats are beautiful in the winter time. And I have an electronic call I'm going to test out hopefully in the next week or so. And wind at my back good to know I would of sat wind in my face. Thanks for the advice! |

One other option to extend your bow hunting time in the woods, would be to bow hunt small game. being able to hit a small target with an arrow will fine tune your bow skills, and still allow you to bring home some tasty meat for the table.

Ok, I'm confused? If you can't hunt deer, how can you hunt yotes. i think he was meaning deer season is over with. GLW. Good cover scent cause Yotes love to come in on downwind side. some type of structure in front of you so they wont notice movement and be able to shoot out to 40 yds. A good electric call would be a plus along some type of decoy. I'm along with GLW shooting them out of my treestand has always worked for me. A gutpile is a nice thing ,but owning and working on a farm, get a still born calf every once in awhile and they are wonderful bait for bringing them in. Just throw out in the middle of field and sit in haymow with .22/250 and say bye bye yote. |

I sure wish we could hunt them year round in NY. But, we have enough troubles with our POS Governor and President! What is your maximum shooting distance Pederson? I believe buckstalker is on the right track with sittng in a haymow out in a field where you can site them before they site you. It's not going to be easy getting them in close but man if you can do it my hats off to you. It's a good feeling getting an arrow in a yote! |

Yep, Pederson, doing the same....predator hunting now that deer seasons have ended in NY. I hunt a lot in a state park that is bow only, so it makes a hard hunt even harder! Lol...My favorite spot is in a stand of cedars, set up my call and hope for the best. I've seen/missed bobcat back there, but it does give me the field of view I need to see them come in. Plus I have a natural blind back there. Good luck!!! |
