My name is Sam and I am a fairly novice hunter. I did not grow up around it but it always intriqued me. 10 years ago I met my wife and her family of hunters. I am now hooked. I started duck hunting about 10 years ago along with squirrel. I just completed my first attempt at deer hunting as I wanted to get familar with it due to the fact that my oldest boy just turned 9 and he is into hunting and fishing like crazy. I took him with me as we waited for an 8 pointer to come into range but he never did. Still enjoyed every moment of it. I have 4 kids and 1 on the way which keeps my hunting budget minimal... luckily my boys love to hunt and fish so we get our time in the fields, woods or lakes.  So to start off does anyone have any good websites or advice for  a hunter on a tight budget for gear and such? So far I have made due by borrowing the in-laws guns and keeping my eye on auctions and garage sales for some gear. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Sam. You've hooked into a wealth of information. Great way to spend time with your kids and teach them some values at the same time.

Thanks Steve. And you are right... My 9 year old has already displayed more patience then most of the adults I interact with. The others are following suit quite nicely.

Welcome Sam. Where in southern Wis. are you from? I live in Manitowoc, but I have a sister who lives in Kenosha. It's good to see a new member form my area. I congratulate you on getting your kids involved in the out doors. It appears from your statement that you have the opportunity to learn about the outdoors along with your kids. What a cool thing to share!

Thanks everyone. gbishop3.... I am from Dodgeville which is 40 miles southwest of Madison. And you are right.... I do get the opportunity to learn and experience things for the first time with my kids. I can feel my eyes getting as big as the kids do when I reel in a big fish.. or that 8-pointer comes strutting out of the woods. I am hoping that feeling never goes away. Love the rush and the fresh air. Can't beat it. Thanks again.
