i got a remington 30-06 ,synthetic stock,no name scope.for christmas.i like the rifle, but not the scope,i'm looking to get a new scope, but not sure what to get.i'll be shooting deer at ranges between 25 yds to 300 or so yds.i shoot remington cor-lok 165 gr.at the range the other day,it took 8 shots to zero.3 at 25 yds 3 at 50 yds and 2 at 100 yds.the 100 yd shots were blurry targets, but got 5" spread.enough to get me thru the rest of deer season.i know if i ask 10 hunters i'll get 10 different answers.i want a good scope for under $125.00 that will serve my hunting needs.whats your thuoghts on bushnell, pentex, bsa, barska or simmons.any in a 3-9X40 or 50,or 4-12X40 or 50.i want something clear at any distance. |

Bushnell 3x9 Dusk to dawn Banner. lastone I bought was $99.00. I like that you can light up the crosshairs. Have one on my slug gun, two of my muxxelloaders, my son slug gun and his muzzelloader. We hunt in N.J. Don't know about out to 300 yards. Joe |

I bought a BSA 3x9x40 Deerhunter scope because I needed a scope asap and it was all they had I could afford. With the right ammo I can easily cloverleaf 5 rounds at 150 yards with it out of my Rem 700 in 270 win. ( from rest, not free handed ) Over 200 yards the groups open up some but still within the kill zone. I have a cheapo bushnell on a Rem 700 in 300 winmag and it is about the same as with the bsa/270 setup. However I know MANY people that swear bsa scopes are junk, so it might be hit or miss getting a good scope from them and might lean towards the Bushnell that Joe mentioned. Just MHO, hope it helps. |

To stay under your $ limit, check out the Vortex Crossfire 2-7x32. SWFA has them for about $120. If you can, spend a bit more for a Weaver V9 or a Redfield. Another option is a fixed power from Weaver, the K4 or K6 will do everything you're asking. I would NOT go over 3-9 in power, hell a 4X will do 300 yds like your talking about. And not over 40 mm objective, those 50's look like a sewer pipe mounted on the rifle. Dale |

Simmons---NOT !!! Swift---Okay! I have glass that cost as much as the rifle.....you can make any conclusion you wish from that! But most are Leupold with a cuppla Swarovskis, a Burris and a Swift thrown in. |

save your money a little longer and get a better scope, Leupold or Vortex. When people ask me what the extra cash buys me over a cheap scope I tell them "time", you can see well enough to shoot earlier and later with good glass, the prime game movement times. Both companies also offer a lifetime warranty, stuff happens in the field and it's nice to send in something broken and get it fixed or replaced for free. |

For inexpensive scopes, I have had excellent results with Pentax Gameseeker 4-12's from Sportsman's Guide. Treat them gently and they will do fine. Just put them in place and avoid unnecessary fiddling. It's the durability of the adjustments that make for pricy scopes. |

I'm a Burris guy, but $125.00 ??
............if you can buy Vortex for that, I would say that's your best bet.
Lifetime Warranty..... !!! |

I obviously have way more invested in scopes than I should have with a couple of Swarovskis, 10 or 12 Leupolds and a Burris and a Swift,,,,,ohhhh, there is also the over investment in binocs since I have Swa's...... I hereby revert to only advise I will ever give on scopes and binocs-----the best you can afford! |

There are good and bad in everything. Like Tom, with over 60 rifles, I have lots, made by many. However Tom, if in your travels ya happen upon one of the old Simmons Presidentials, 4 x 44 wide angle, and ya don't buy it, then I asure ya, it is your lose!! I bought mine in '90, and at the time, for a fixed power scope, it wasn't really what one would call cheap. It has been on my .300 Win. Mag since purchase. Has taken as bad a beatin' as any, and is as good today as it was 23 years ago. The clarity is as fine as any scope made. Twink |

sorry it took so long to get back.when i took it to the range after i put the cat's eye on,2 shots at 50yds,2shots at 100 yds 5 shots at 200 yds......well it didn't take me 5 shots,it took 1 shot.i just wanted to shoot it a few more times.at 200 yds, i was getting a shot group of 2.5",1.5"low and to the right.not bad,it'll kill any deer in the kill zone all day long.i'm happy with my choice. |
