I currentley have a 5 year old champion hunting line yellow lab named Keeley. She has always been house broken and never had a Issue till now. She keeps going to the bathroom inside the house. How can I correct this? I already tried by taking her out more to make sure she doesnt try to go in the house but shes still doing it. Any Ideas? Thanks

Clean the bathroom real well in the area she is using. Ask your vet what they use to clean up urine. They may even be able to get some from them. Unfortunately I cannot remember what the stuff was that we used when we had this problem with one of my Dad's dogs. If I remember correctly, it was something he got from the vet (my brother). Regular cleaning supplies do not completely remove the smell (at the dogs level of smell) so it took this other stuff. Anyway, that is what worked for him. He tried the "let them out more often" route, the "rub their nose in it route", the "rub there nose in it and whack them" route but none worked until he cleaned up the area with the stuff I cannot remember what it is (nice sentence structure right there). Anyway, that is what worked for him. One difference is that my dad's dog was a male, not sure if that makes a difference or not. I will send an email to my brother and ask him to tell me what he uses. (I am in Korea and my brother does not check email to often so getting ahold of him may take a bit)

Anyway, it is worth a try.

If your dog was good up to now about not going in the house, you might want to check if something else is wrong with the dog. It might be something as simple as a bladder infection.

I totally agree at 5 years old and never a problem there has to be a factor that set her off.  I am assuming no new dogs in the picture?  Is she fixed?  Has her feeding schedule suddenly changed?  Most dogs once house trained remain trained unless some disruption usually caused by a new pup.  If that is not the case I would check with your vet.  Also a female kept intact and is never bred can develope incontenance and cancer is she fixed or intact and never been bred?  I hope you can find a simple answer and no health issues are at stake here Good Luck with your girl!

Thank you for all the advice. I had her checked out at the vet and sure enough it was a bladder infection she got a shot and is back to normal now. Thanks for everything everyone. Means alot to me.

That is great news so glad all turned out to be a simple fix for you and your girl. You can never be to careful with the females best to check with a vet right away! A bladder infection left untreated can lead to many more expensive to treat complications! Just remember next time if she acts up again!

Whenever an animal starts behaving in an unusual way its a signal a Vet visit may be in order. Case in point when one of my wife's cats stopped sleeping by my head we went to the Vet. Being a Tech I could see the yellow tint to his skin and knew he had a liver problem. The Vet who was one of my professors. Put me through another exam asking me for a differential diagnosis. Then she made me do the blood work. Diagnosis acute liver failure. Then she put him down. And she didn't charge me for the visit.

The only way an animal has of telling you "I'm sick" is abnormal behavior. They can't say "Mommy I got a tummy ache."
