I am looking for suggestions on a new 20 gauge sabot slug to shoot out of my girlfriend's Mossberg Trophy Slugster.

I had her shooting the Federal Barnes Expanders the last couple of years because I liked the way they dropped deer in their tracks.  Trouble is they stopped making them in 20 gauge for some strange reason, and we are down to our last box.

Can anyone recommend a 20 gauge sabot slug that has the same kind of knock-down power as the Expanders?  Not too worried about reach-out-and-touch type of distance because she generally only takes shots under 75 yards (I take the long shots with my Hornady SSTs when we hunt together).

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You already mentioned the ones I use and those are the Hornady's. There are many new slugs out and the only way to know is to shoot them. I would suggest the Lightfield Commander's, Federal Copper's, and the Winchester Supreme Gold slugs but as already noted you will have to actually shoot these to see which ones the shotgun will like best. For the rnage you gave for her shooting I would start with the Lightfield slug http://www.lightfieldcommander.com and go from there.

Need to use the one that is accurate first. I use SST from 10 yards and up. I was given some for my 930 and it shoots them very well, BUT my favorite slugs to use is the Brennekes KO sabots out of a rifled barrel and KO rifled slugs out of smoothbore. They specialize in rifled slugs that can be shot out of rifled barrels. My wife family swear by Winchester Supreme Gold in 20 ga. Again if I had to pick one brand to be accurate all around it goes to Brenneke's. Hornady has a new SST out that I might check out. I also cast and load my own sabots using Lee mold for about $.25 each and had very good result. Lymans also make a mold for this and Ballistic Products sell slugs for reloading if you are interested.
