the marines should be released to bring him home.but we all know in this day and age with this administration nothing will be done.I'm sure by now he realizes going to mexico was foolish. should have gone surfing here in the states instead

And people wonder why in 11 years here is Southern Arizona I have never gone to Mexico.

I bet if this was a Mexican who got caught just over our border with a firearm people would be clamoring for them to do jail time.

He was set up to be arrested in Mexico, by the US border patrol in the first place. Read the article! He declared the gun when exiting the US and was given the wrong information, so yes, he did break the Mexican law. Why didn't the US border patrol inform him of the requirements of the necessary paper work in order to take the gun across the border? This sounds too similar to some other gun schemes we've become familiar with under the Obama administration.

He also did not smuggle the gun into Mexico, he declared it at MX customs! He wasn't hiding anything or trying to sneak a firearm into the country.

He took the advise of a border patrol agent, he believed to know the laws of Mexico. It was an honest mistake, with no illegal intent, our Gov should be pointing that out to Mexico and go from there, and this issue should be resolved in a timely manor.
Or there will be other Marines there to secure his release, and insure that the extortionest will never do the same again, to anyone.

I remember a similar incident here in my home town, where a fellow El Campoan went to Mexico and had bullets sitting on his dashboard. They held him for 6 months. The officer in charge said he could go home if the man gave him an x- amount of cash right then and there. Its BS.. corupt Mexicans just wanna make money....they all suck and are greedy busterds..I have no use for them at all

Are you saying there not not the same kind of corupt greedy beastards in this Country. It is their Country and they should be able to do as they like in their Country. I don't like the idea of anyone/other Country telling us how we should do things. But They should be made aware, questionable treatment and extortion will not be talorated, as it pretains to USA citizens. And we do say in this Country ignorance of the law is no excuse. We view it as extortion, they view it as a fine, for breaking a laws to which ignorance is no excuse. However in this case, he attempted to do the right thing, and it is clearly extortion, and in it self illegal and requiers some sort of behavior adjustment.

Yes sir ckell I agree but as you have stated..its extortion....I think we should know the laws of other countries...But then again these peeps know they are from the us and want the money for their own benefits. How many times have we tolerated their felons over here and still they do worse and actually kill peeps and we hand a bunsh (not all) back to their govt. and they let them loose and they end up back over here again to do same sh@t they did before...I think It really bites...I wish they would break into my house and save the tax payers some money.

So this Marine is paying for Fast and Furious... MX wants to make an example of him due to the gun trafficing problems from the US.

BLOCK the borders and SHIP ALL ILLEGALS BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN!!!

Letter from Mexican ambassador dampens hope for early release of Jon Hammar

"Mexico has had very stringent gun-control laws in place for many years, and have reinforced their application as a result of the flow of weapons illicitly purchased in the U.S. and then trafficked into Mexico and into the hands of Transnational criminal Organizations."

An antique .410 shotgun is most certainly the weapon of choice for the drug cartels who run Mexico!!! Just as semi-auto rifles and shotguns are "weapons of mass destruction" as the antis are now proclaiming!!!!!!!
