In order to have a real effect on the population of these snakes this will need to be a year round deal. They should be passing a law that allows the killing of these snakes year round as they are spreading at a much faster rate than anyone ever thought possible. Along with the corssbreeding hybrids from these snakes mating with the boas there is gonna be a much bigger and more aggressive snake that as has been noted is and will continue to spread at a much faster rate than at present. They have already caught some 12ft-14ft snakes that have come out of the swamps and into the subdivisions built next to them. Couple this problem with the one they have had with the alligators and it is dangerous for any kids to be outside playing while in their own backyards. Both problems can be dealt with at least as effective as the one they have in LA where they have the " fishing " season on gators which helps keep most of the gators to a smaller size even though every year there are some monstrous gators caught and killed during their season there. They have been encouraging hunters to kill any of the snakes they see while hunting but a small bounty would help make this more of a priority than just a by chance of seeing them while hunting.

Yep ! Folks thought they were gonna be able to walk out into the Everglades and pick snakes up by the bag fulls. Well guess what ? It didn't and ain't gonna happen as these snakes blend in and I would bet that many were walked right by and never seen by the many who were looking to make some quick cash. They are also going in the daytime when the evening and night hours are the best as this is when the snakes are most active especially in Florida's heat. From watching the tv a great number are being caught in people's backyards and pools. The pros are the ones riding around at night on the roads that skirt the Glades and the neighborhoods and I have seen them catching a lot of snakes to include a couple of 10+ ft and that is only in one night. Read an article on a young 22yo who has a degree in Herpatology and even he and his assistant have not caught many and they go out everyday. As I have already stated if they are gonna mkes any difference in the numbers this needs to be a year round thing and ni limit on the numbers caught or killed. They should be encouraging ALL hunters to either catch or kill and bring in all they do so an accuarte count can be made. This is another attempt to control a problem that has had way to long to get out of hand and it will take years of year round ctaching/killing these snakes to make any noticeable difference.

YEAH...Big Dawg, I agree. A bounty year round would do the trick. As the person I am I dont believe in catching them...killl them all. In southeast texas, we kill all the snakes, even if we can determine what is bad or good....Yeah I Know...good for the enviroment...I dont care..Im not going to wait for a description...kill first and not be killed...lol

Just like when I see a dead coyote on the side of the road: "that's the best jote, a dead one". Shoot first and ask for I.D. after, whether it's about snakes or those two-legged vipers sneaking behind the bushes.
