Hi guys,

I am looking into getting into dove and duck hunting with my 50lbs recurve and wondered if any of you have had experience with the different types of flu flu arrows. I would be shooting a 300gr or so 6" snaro head on the end of the arrow. Which kind of flu flu arrow would you recommend(straight or helical 3-6 feather fletch, or spiral wrapped)? I will be hunting in areas with about 70 to 300 yards of field, depending on which direction I shoot.

Thanks

I started to practice for bird and rabbit. For birds I went with 6 for phesant and 4 for farther shots. Rabbits I used regular fletching. I would go to my local club and throw clay pigoens in the air and skip them on the ground. I got pretty good at it. I also bought some cheep frisbees and glued one inch foam into them and had a friend toss them into the air. Works great. I havnt hunted with it yet. I can't wait. Good luck.

At this point I am using six fletch arrows for practice as nothing is in season right now where I live. I have a toy stuffed cow about the size of a 'possum that I have friends throw up in the air. I am getting better, although I am nowhere near great. What is the farthest range that you shoot the arrows at?

Thanks for the response and info. I hadn't thought of the frisbees-may try that when I get a little better.

I've been considering duck hunting with my bow as well, especially since my wife has been hounding me to get duck or goose this year so long as I'm not shooting the ones in our pond. Is it a better idea to take the shot as the fly, swim, or if they get up on land?
Quick-study bow hunter. Prey of choice- whitetails and anything that eats my veggie garden!

I have never hunted ducks with a bow, but this might be helpful: http://snaro.net/bowhunting-ducks/
I really like the snaro spearo heads.
In my opinion, it would be easier to get them while on the land or water, although that seems like shooting a deer at a feeder-slightly unethical. If you're good enough, go for the landing shots. If you can hit them while they are flying over or taking off, you're an excellent shot.

Check your regs!  Most fair game laws will only allow the bird to be shot at a minimum height in the air.
