 We had 15 hunters on opening Day. 42 Deer were seen. we shouldve had 15 deer down but had some misses to contend with. so 9 were taken. Heres Mike with a nice 9 pointer taken at 20 yards chasing a Doe. several more 8 pointers were missed. so they are still up there for next season! hopefully will be bigger next season.

H101, congrats on 9 deer.
That said, I don't know how to say this without sounding at least a little critical so I guess I would like some more info.
You stated that several 8 pointers were missed. I'm wondering how many is several? And am wondering why?
Not to sound like I'm on my high horse, I've missed deer before, and understand that not every shot is going to be perfect. I also don't know the facts about the missed deer, but the statement of "several" does leave me wondering. So please don't think that I'm trying to rip on you, or those that you hunt with, it's just my curious nature coming out.
I hunted with a guy in the early 2000's who for the first two seasons I hunted with him missed everything I had pushed too him. He was shooting a Rem 722(Or was it the 721?) bolt action chambered in a 300 Savage with open sights. The guy was on a fixed income and didn't have much money to spare. I'd finally had enough of him missing, and decided to buy him a scope, and mounts for Christmas. The following season he killed 2 deer in 2 days with 2 shots (1 each). Needless to say he was a very happy hunter. When I started re-loading in 2006 I got this same guy involved in it too, today he's a pretty damn good shot, and I can't remember a deer that he's missed since we put the scope on his rifle.
Again, I don't know the facts about about the missed deer, but is it possible that some issues need to be addressed?

Congratulations, Nice buck.
I started to ask a similar question yesterday when I first read this post, but I didn't want to sound critical. 15 hunters, 42 deer observed, 9 recovered, many more shot at but not recovered. What makes you think they're going to be bigger next season? I agree they're most likely still there, but if they were shot at the possibility is they are laying dead somewhere. |

Their website only says central NYS. County map: http://www.health.ny.gov/statistics...y/vol1.htm I'd guess in the Steuben, Schuyler, Tioga area, but that's just a guess. |

I was curious if it was public or private and how many acres to be able to see that many deer in one day. Especially with that many hunters, they may be seeing the same deer if they are pushing them around? Just curious I guess.  |

can't answer that but again, only a guess would be public. That area of NY and the areas south in PA are good whitetail country. That report does seem to be extremely good though, I'll give ya that. |

some of the hunters that i took out it was there 1st time deer hunting so im sure inexpierence and a case of buck fever contributed to the misses. a good time was had by all and im sure they learned from there expirence. this is all on our private lands in central ny's otsego county.
