This is my first year varment hunting. I'v been in and out of differant areas scouting, and scouting while hunting other critters it get an idea of where theese yots like spend thier time.
when I go out to hunt theese guys I can locate them,we sit and call back and forth. But I just cant seem to bring them out of thier hiding spots to takea shot. I usecent killer on me, almost always down wind, I walk in to thespotsi findactivity in, I try not to have too much open area cause that makes em uncomfotable, I cammo up, and I use cover. Why arnt they commin in? |

maybe they just don't like the sound of your calls or they may have been called a lot and been educated. I would suggest you buy some videos and watch how the pros do it,maybe you'll pick up some tips.the main thing is be patiant and don't give up.very few are successful there first couple times it takes a lot of trial and error but eventually you'll get it . IF YOU CALL THEM THEY WILL COME! |

Even a mature hawk only scores 1 out of 10 tries. One thing I've learned about predators - You have to see them, before they see you ! Be careful about how you get in and out of your "stands" (set-up). |

Where are you hunting what area of the country if they are howling try a pup in distress, play it low what type of call are you usning I have found that some folks have over called with some of the new callers and have gone to a hand call or a old cassette and had great results always start low with your call to loud and it will scare them off. Let me know I will try to help pratice and take your time on each stand. Patiences is the most you can do if they are educated and been shot at they are even more wary to come in put a feather on a string and hang it on a stick about two feet off the ground they will see the movement and they will come in. Keep trying and shoot straight and be safe. |

Hey folks thankfor the imput! I hunting in Az just north of Tucson. I have scouted around prior to starting,& have found some good hi traffic areas. alot are in the aug fields & surrounding aresas. With all the cotton in blume i park in the ditches so the white from the truck blends with the white cotton. I alwayswalk in, & I try to sit up on the other side of the burms where I can see out, but keep a low profile or on fence lines under the trees. I try to have some open space in front so as to get a good shot, but I understand that in some places too much open ground & they may not come. Using all hand held calls cant afford the electronic ones. And thisyears regs sayin no electronicly amplified devises allowed.Calls used are a varietyfrom Primos Hot Dog, female Wimper, Still Jackrabbit, & Cat Nip. (Just realized going down the list they all primos) MaybeI need more variety? Mondays trip out they wouldnt come out of the river bed. I havefound scrapps of duck & chicken from the farm down the road. |

Set-up closer to where you are seeeing the "sign", with a elevated view of the thickest cover in the area. Any decoy will help (turkey feather on a string). Call softly unless you are a World Champion - they'll know where it's coming from. Just imagain................ how many of them see you, before you see them. |

I have not hunted around Tucson but I can imagine that the area is very similar to Buckeye where I am. The biggest problem I run into is seeing them. You need to find some way of seeing over the brush. If you can't set up on a hillside try sitting on a stool or standing up with your back against a large bush or tree. |
