Ok i am new to calls and need a little help. I know price isnt everything its how much you practice and how well i do it. A 100.00 call may not work for me where as i can make a 50.00 call sound great. What i want to try to do is match the call to my hunting area and heres where i need some help. First off its public land thats all i have to hunt. The ducks do see hunters and get some pressure. Let me describe the area and see if that helps any. You have a 100 acer lake surrounded by corn fields / grass fields on one side. Then you have a river about 150 yards away and then 3 very small ponds and two hidden holes behind an archery range. I dont think people know these two exist. I will mainly hunt the fields since i have no dog. I have been looking at tje RNT Alpha 2 the daisy cutter and DC mondo. Am i on the right track with these calls since they say open water / fields / piblic land or should i be looking at something by Zinks or Buck Gardner. Any help would be appreciated ad we are going to stop by BassPro when we leave the hotel in the morning. Thanks.

Went to Bass Pro and got an employee to help me out a little. He ran a few calls for me and got me to try one out. All i can say is god help the ducks, my calling will kill them before i can shoot the. He ran an alpha2 and a BG reactor and i personally couldnt tell the diff between the two. Some others there as well couldnt tell either but im new to this so i may be tone def. So i picked up the BG and a Zink power hen, now i can tell the diff between these two calls, they have diff tones and one has a higher end to it. Now its time to practice, practice, and practice some more. Get one down and then the other.

I been duck huntin for over 50 years....called a few in....used about every call out there....I for the last five or so years have nothing on my lanyard but Brian Warner handmade calls and a multiple use whistle....Brian's calls sound great and are "cheap" compared to big name calls...I cut my lanyard back to four----a whistle and three Brian calls---two single reeds and a double reed.
