I've seen some recipes on the internet but am interested in folks that have done it.  I guess I'm looking for a rub and something to inject into the roast.  The cooking times I've read about are pretty consistant at 7 minutes per pound but any advice on that is welcome as well.  Thanks.

You can get different variety's of the flavors to inject as well as the injection kits now at Walmart and all the big Hunting Gear stores. I myself prefer the butter an garlic but there are many flavors so I'm sure you will find one you prefer. I have never fried a roast but instead I put it in a preheated oven at 450 degrees for the first 1hr 45 minutes then turn it down to 250 degrees and let it slow cook for 3-4 hours and double wrap it in aluminum foil for the 450 degree time and then remove it during the lwo and slow time. This is just my personal choice and opinion and nothing more nor less. I then serve usually with sides of either potato salad or baked potato and any vegetables you like. I have never had any complaints and most usually ask for my recipe and cooking times. I inject so much that I have it running out of the roast in numerous places and you can also baste if you like but once I put mine in the oven I don't open the door till it is done.

I like your idea, but I cook my turkey at 3.5 min per lb. That comes out pretty close. Just don't want you to over cook a good roast. Rare elk is no problem, rare turkey, not so good.

Never thought of deep frying a roast. As with smoking meats, the rub/injection is personal taste though.

One word of caution though, make dang sure the meat is DRY when you SLOWLY submerse it into the oil!

The key words here are DRY nad SLOWLY or you will create a monster that is not easily corrected. I was amazed after reading an articlle about how many people are injured by burns and both decks ( where most cook ) or homes being burned down from folks attempting to deepfry turkey's.

It's actually scarey. Especially since every fryer sold specifically warns against such behavior and why. But then again, just from this site we know that people can't/won't read...

I look it as Darwinism attempting to work.
