Dear Fellow HAHC Hunters....

I would just like to alert each and every one of you before you spend that hard-earned
money to fly away to the dream hunt.

This is the second time that US AIRWAYS has deceptively managed to gain business
based on their dividend miles and have not come through.

More recently, I booked a trip with US Airways to Northern Quebec on a moose hunt. The
rep (who's name was erased from the computer reservation system according to a supervisor)
stated that I had to book two separate flights...one with US Airways to Montreal and one
with Air Canada to Val D'Or (northern Quebec). My question was that since I am booking
using the Star Alliance through US Airways (both US Airways and Air Canada are members),
why can't you see the Air Canada flights. The rep stated that sometimes "they don't let
us see their flights"...Duh, then why have an "alliance". I booked the two flights not realizing
that this "gimmick" will cause me to pay BAGGAGE FEES for TWO airlines...once when I
get on the US Airways flight to Montreal and secondly when I get on the flight to Val D'Or, Quebec.

I finally realized this but it was too late, and customer service on BOTH airlines chose not to
want to help instead saying it was the other airline's fault.....once again, why do these companies
keep calling this an alliance. Needless to say, I not only had to pay additional baggage fees
when I arrived in Montreal from the US but ALSO had to go through CUSTOM'S inspection
again! This was a real thrill! Someone walking around all of those non-hunting PETA people
with firearms in this day and age....I really felt my money was well spent by now! NOT!

To sum things up, on the way back my outfitter did accompany me to the airport and for some
strange reason the rep cooperated and sent all of my luggage straight through to it destination
in the US! He had told her that this does not happen to any of his FRENCH customers so why
are you doing this to AMERICANS?!!! Something does not smell right here!!!

-------

On a previous trip to South Africa, I used US Airways (a good old American company...I thought),
who made the reservations which would have resulted in my obtaining dividend miles for the
several thousand miles of traveling. As US Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance
which includes such airlines as Air Canada, United, South African Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines etc. it
is possible to book reservation with co-companies within the STAR ALLIANCE through US Airways
and in return the process is easier, bags should travel straight through to the destination AND
I get my hands on some good DIVIDEND MILES (or so little old me thought).

After returning to the USA from a successful hunt, I was disappointed to hear from a USA AIRWAYS
rep that I needed to keep the Boarding Pass to claim the miles. By now that little piece of paper
was either so smudged and unintelligible from traveling back from a couple of weeks in the
bush (even if I could find it) that it would not have made a difference. I stated to several US AIRWAYS
reps AND supervisors that the flight was booked through US Airways and that a computer system
could easily provide them with all of the pertinent reservation data. Of course, as the true drones
they are, the reps AND SUPERVISORS both kept insisting on this little piece of paper to claim those points.

Needless to say, I am starting another dividend mileage program with Delta and United
and will not use US Airways anymore than is absolutely necessary. And yes, they
were reminded that their little Dividend Mileage program is an incentive to continue to
use US Airways....do you relaly think that this would make the gears start turning in their
little minds...Hades NO!!!!

BEWARE the dividend mile AND separate flight booking SCAM for you next hunt! It could cost you
dearly as it cost me!

Every single ailine in this country has some kind of deceptive advertising and busines practices and that is a fact. I have a very good friend who has worked for Delta for the last 14 years and even says this is a cutthroat business and they will do whatever it takes to get you on one of their planes and worry about customer satisfaction later. Sad but true.

With the high costs of flying and the extreme baggage fees...I would hate to think that
Americans are becoming complacent to this outright deceptiveness and trickery by
the airlines.

We may need an organized "Hunters Front" to deal with the airlines, as I am starting to
see more Americans drive through Canada then fly. $300 baggage fees for a 3rd and 4th
box of meat is RIDICULOUS!  US Airways has tucked away on their website that ANTLERS
will be charged $200...provided they fit within the size guidelines...expect to pay out of
the nose for that trophy moose!!!

Bob:

US Airways is charging $200 to transport antlers...they say nothing about the cape which would have to go in another box and guess what...cha-ching..another $200 for US Airways.  Most recently, I have been dealing with outfitters who can personally get the trophy to a taxidermist as part of the deal without additional charges.  I review their selected taxidermists before the hunt and speak with them directly to HELP avoid any slip-ups.  This will save you at least $400 in shipping fees of the antlers and cape.  As you can see, this arrangement is prudent especially if you have successfully hunted multiple animals and plan on mounting the trophys.  The only shipping fee for these items will be for the final mount after it leaves the taxidermist and may run about $200 for a shoulder mount delivered to your front door.   I have used "Fauna & Flora Customhouse Brokerage Co., Inc." in NY to broker the overseas transportation of my trophys.  They are great to deal with and very professional.  Their fee is nominal considering that you DO NOT have to carry antlers and capes on the plane and worry about whether they will arrive in one piece!

I now limit the quantity of meat to one or two 50 lb boxes and donate the remainder to the charity in the outfitter's area.  I realize that this is a lot of meat going to the outfitter (to be used at his discretion....I hope it ends up a the charity) but unless you are trying to make the airline rich(er), this is a consideration.  Any remaining ammo is donated to the Outfitter to help lighten my load for the return trip.  This will help with any souvenirs you may happen to pick up (have to bring something back for the wife).

As for the guns....I usually travel with two firearms which add up to 35 lbs in the box.  I stuff the box with other heavy items
such as binos, batteries, range finder, shooting sticks, etc to get the weight of this box as close to 50 lbs as possible.  Whoa be it to the hunter who exceeds 50 lbs...cha-ching...another $175 !!!!

These are my best suggestions....and maybe there are more, but the airlines really know how to take advantage of hunters.  I wouldn't be surprised if PETA or HSUS had something to do with these rates....  and where did they come up with $200 for antlers to be specific!!!  Just finding that info on the US Airways website will be a major effort....not that they will tell you this beforehand!  BEWARE THE SCAM!

Hope this helps!
