I carry an assortment of calls. I like to nix it up at time. Different sounds might just get him thinkin there be more then one horny hen up there.

For me the simpler and more repeatable the better. I have tried other things but a box call works. It works and it is consistent.

The issue I have with the other forms of call is the repeatability. I stink at using a mouth call. I bought a Haint last year and is it great for the final 15 minutes of the holf hour I practice with it. That is not help. It is like saying that my 3rd arrow is right on target. It has to be right the first time.

When I take my grandson out for his first turkl in less than two months, think I will put his mom in blind with us! She has learned to call them with her mouth since they bought a farm a few years ago. Calls owls in all the time too! Problem is, she has all the turkls and deer named!

Mr. Brown  you only practices 1/2 hour on your box call or with your bow ?  Try practicesing while driving to and from work you will be glad you did. Try soft yelps and purrs that will bring them in closer. Use the mouth call to seal the deal !!

Every year I remind folks that a domestic turkey and wild turkey make and use the smae call sounds. The worst sounding turkey call I EVER heard was from a REAL hen. I have had 2 year old toms copme running into the sound of a chevy truck horn. The cadence and timing of the calling is as important as the sound itself. Practice whenever and whereever you can.

CADENCE!!!!????
Surely it doesn't work on turkey like ducks!
Who would want to practice until they learned the right cadence???? Just slam your truck door and run to the gobble!

Mine is what ever the gobbler likes at that particular moment but when he gets close I like a mouth call and just soft calling. Don't forget to scratch the leaves. Just don't get seen.
