I just became a life member not too long ago. The other day I received a package in the mail "Life Member Benifits" "Free Gift". I thought I was receiving something for free. I opened the plastic package, it was a calendar. Very nice. I opened it up to flip through the months. I thought "wow" this was really nice. When I finally got around to open the envelope attached to the outside of the package, it said the calendar would be $16.99....or I could send it back UN-OPENED...REALLY ?? The "free" gift was a small magnet calender. What a joke. Very misleading. I read some older threads where this happened before. Is this what being a life member will be like?

Actually, the big white envelope is marked "EXCLUSIVE MEMBER BENEFIT", then the camo envelope that's glued to the front containing the invoice, etc., has "FREE GIFT! LOOK INSIDE. right above the address section.

You will have to learn how to identify all mailings from the NAHC, if in doubt, always carefully open the camo envelopes, but you can usually tell it's an invoice by looking for the bar codes on the upper right hand of the envelope, and the "PRSRT STD U.S. POSTAGE PAID NAAC DISTRIBUTION" box in the upper right corner of the address label. Those are the identifiers that the item is one of the "try it and buy it" items that your signature on the membership agreement allows the company to send to you.

Welcome to the NAHC and the Life Member's roll!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Your's was $16.99? The billing I got was $21.59. I sent mine back unopened.(My bill showed up on line way before I got the package)Told them do not send me anything else that I do not order, or by law I will keep it and not pay for it.
Am really starting to wonder if I made a mistake by becoming a "Trophy Life Member"

I'm with you patrick. NFW were they getting me for TLM. That said; welcome Garbo! These boards, and the people here are the best benefit of joining. A source of a vast amount of experience and knowledge.

As has been said, you can stop mailings. I did and they don't send me anything. I do seem to be getting the mags now which is an improvement.

The Deer of North America was the one that cost $21.59, and the Wild Game Wild Country one was $16.98.

Also, ASIEGMUND, remember that you gave the company permission to send you unsolicited items on a "try it and buy it" program when you signed up; so technically and legally you ARE responsible for payment. Besides, all you have to do is mark any item "refused return to sender" and pop it right back in the mail, and it won't cost you anything but the time required to write on it. People have been informed by the Postal Service, that what I just stated is the law, and the company has taken legal action against members for non-payment in the past. This has been discussed many times over the years, here on the forums.

rthomas, You may be right. It has been over 10 years that I have been a life member, but I certainly do not remember giving them any permission. Not saying I did'nt, but have no memory of it. But I do know that for at least 6 years, they have not sent me any "try and buy" Stuff. As soon as I become a TLM, I get one.
And as you said, I did mark it "refused, return to sender".
For sure if the South had won, we would be much better off!! (just my opinion)

That's ok Steve, if we didn't have you Yankees around, there wouldn't be any reason to be happy and proud to be a Southerner!!!!!!!!!

Aw, hell, everybody should own at least one!    But, that's neither here nor there.  I just like to poke fun at Yankees, every now and then, just for the hell  of it...........and Steve is well aware of that!

Thanks for the response. I will put it in some kind of wrapper and send it back. It just looked real sneaky on how they send things like that. Also it said it can be returned...un-opened. Well that's the first thing I did was open it ! I know now to be very carefull on any "Free" stuff I get in the mail

My only point is rthomas is that people need to study history: not only take for granted what they are taught in school . Nobody knows true history these days.

History is written by the winners. You always hear about Andersonville and their treatment of POWs but nothing about conditions at Elmira NY or Chicago Ill. Bid you know that the towards the end of WW2 the US starved German POWs. It wasn't intentional. What happened it was within a month or so of Germany's defeat. So instead of sending POWs to the US or Canada the just penned them up outdoors. They asked nutritionists what was the minimum caloric intake per day to maintain good health for individuals doing minimum exercise. The nutritionists gave them the numbers. So they gave them the reccomended caloric intake per day and a large number starved to death. What the military forgot to tell the nutrionists is the POWs were poorly clothed and were just sitting around in 30F weather. That fact makes one heck of a difference in how many calories a person needs. But if you look you won't find this in anu history book because the winners write the history. Did you know that during that same war German snipers were left behind to hinder Allied progress? They'd shoot a few people then surrender. Allied soldiers were so infuriated at this that when a sniper came out hands up unarmed they just shot him dead.
