Why is it that you don't hear much about the coyote's hearing ability?

They hear very well. Maybe people are saving the topic for next year...

that is why there are in the predator class they will spot you and here you when you are walking into a hunt area so be ware and walk as close together as you cn hide your vehicle good because they will bust you. That is why most hunters find out if you miss them and educate them it is 10 times as hard to get that next chance at that same dog.

Think of "our" hearing abilities, than "our" dogs hearing abilities, than a "wild" animals abilities to survive each and every day !

It has been my experience that a coyote's ears are like a sonar. I have seen coyotes come in straight for and looking at my electronic caller from distances well over 500 yards with pin piont accuracy.

And yet, while deer hunting (or hunting anything besides coyotes), I can walk to within 25 yds of them. Done that multiple times. If you're not making a bunch of noise, and definitely not calling for them, you can usually stalk to within easy bow range of them.

I've had deer bed down no more than 10 yards from me..........................?!?!

If you can kill coyote's from the ground with a bow on a regular basis; hats off to you !

You know, the funny thing is that if I were to set out to "stalk" coyotes, I probably wouldn't be able to get that close to them! LOL!! It just happens to be opportunity.

Hmm...I may have to go out with my bow specifically for coyotes and see what happens!

In todays world. All seem to be concerned with the nose. But don't you have to get their attention first? I've had people sitting twenty, thirty, and sometimes more that can't hear me calling. And yet coyotes come in. Why isn't more said about their hearing ability? Most folks like those noise maker calling machines. Coyotes can adapt to dangers very fast. Don't you think that with their hearing ability that they can tell between the difference of spreaker sounds against natural sounds?

evidently ,they cannot. if you call them they will come. the thing to keep in mind is although they can see and smell and hear very well, they do not have the intelligence of most humans(liberals excluded) they are still just a stupid animal and therefore easilly fooled.

A friend of mine and I drove into a melee of 4 coyotes and 4 jackrabbits.  It was the funniest thing I ever saw.  One second it looked like the bunny was being chased by the coyote.  The next second it looked like the coyote was being chased by the bunny.  They were running all around my jeep.  It was one of those things where you had to be there to appreciate the humor behind it.  Then you add us jumping out and trying to get shots off at these things at a range of maybe 50 feet coming in and out of mesquite to the mix.  I had one coyote and a bunny run right by me at a distance of about 10 feet.  Here I was spinnig around to try to get a shot off as they disapeared into the mesquite.  Talk about a target rich environment.  Only problem was.  Everything was moving and happening too fast.  We had 8 targets, and didn't hit one. But, it was humorous and fun.
