Has anyone used a deer decoy while hnting in MI?  What would you use, a buck or doe? I'll be up north in the TB area on opening day and would like to even my chances for a deer.  ( any particular maker or set up?)  Thanks to all!

I noticed that there have been several views, but no replies, so I thought I'd suggest you try posting your question down in the Michigan forum. Apparently, most of the views were from folks like myself who've never hunted in Michigan, even though we may or may not have had success with decoys in other parts of the country. I personally have had poor results using them down here in SC, but that doesn't mean they don't work.......just that they don't work on my property.

Here in Gerogia I have found that decoy's are very effective during the rut but not much action when used at other times. Occassionally I can get one to react to a decoy out of curiousity and this works better when using scents and a white rag or even white paper for the tail which will wave when the wind blows and it only takes a very light breeze to make them move. Keep in mind placement of the decoy as well. If using a buck decoy during the rut you want it facing you as the other buck will approach from the front or side and if using a doe have her facing away as most times the buck will approach her from the rear and if using a white rag I would soak it with a good estous scent. Also if your stand faces a creek or river I would suggest placing the decoy about 3/4 the distance to the creek or river so as to make the inncoming deer go between the decoy and your stand.
