Goober....., man I thought all of us old guys had died off. I can't make it this weekend but possibly on the 3rd. Plan to take my 8 year old on opening day of rifle. he is excited to say the least. I am not even going to carry a gun that day. I scouted out there a couple of weeks ago and found a good spot (at least it looked good back then). need to get back out there and find a couple of back ups. you know how it is on public land..... there are no secrets.

got a 5pointer 15 minutes after legal shotting time about 40 yards away saturday morning. saturday afternoon, well that was a different story.got in the tree around 3:00 and at 4 some guy across the creek on private land decides to mend fence off to my right and flushes 2 does down the creek where i cant see them but i heard them splashing in the creek. so i got i deer for saturday.dropped the 5pointer in his tracks. monday morning was windy and raining, so i slept in a bit. got in the tree around 9and did not see anything up to around 12:30. went back to camp and started to get ready to go home that evening. went out for an evening hunt with a freind, he said we were going to his honey hole. got there and had to walk in almost a mile before we went up a tree.on the way to the tree my freind went on down about 100ft or so and went in to the woods.in the process of going to the tree i slipped on a wet branch, as i was getting up my freind flushed a buck up and it ran by me, it ran by me  i could not even get my gun up quick enouph to take aim. i returned home with 1 buck though, good enouph for me.

congrats man.

were there a lot of people out there?

kinda hope the weather messed things up for most. yes, I know it's selfish. just hate scouting and locating a great spot and then someone shoots the woods down before I get a chance to make it make it back out there. maybe one day I will be able to afford a lease. lol

well, I made it out there on sat with my 8 year old son for his first hunt. there wasn't many people there considering that it was opening day of gun season. had a buck and a doe walk by us ( we were on the ground ) @ 20 yards before daylight. they hung out for a couple of minutes before wandering off. about an hour later someone shot twice about 200 yards away where the deer headed. my son was disapointed. we came out at lunch and broke down the camp. got back in the woods around 3pm. I did not carry a gun. this day was for the kids ( pact between a buddy of mine and his boy that joined us on the trip ). with my son sitting between my legs he whispers "buck", "buck" . I could hear the deer but could not see it for what seemed like forever. my son had him in the scope all the way down the ridge but head on. once I confirmed it was a buck I gave him the green light. he cocked the hammer on the old Marlin and waited for him to turn broadside. we watched the deer go behind a tree in the bottom and never saw him again. my son was mad to say the least. I explained my reasoning for wanting him to wait on me to confirm "buck". he understands but was and is still upset. he learned a lot and the experience is something that we will not soon forget. already begging to go back.
