That'll be some good eating and lots of it right there. mwilkey I know exactly what you mean. I hunted at a guy's place a couple of weeks ago and hunted about 100 yds in the woods, but could see his food plot. I counted about 10 deer in his plot right on the edge of the woodline, but of course couldn't get a shot with a bow so I asked if I could move to the edge. He told me that was fine so I found a good tree to climb and got on it. Been out there twice now without seeing the first deer, go figure. |

That's like the bucks I have trail cam pictures of. If I hunt in the early mornings, I very seldom see a decent deer. If I don't hunt, then I have great pictures. If I'm hunting on one stand and don't see anything, when I check cameras the deer were where I wasn't. Turkeys are the same. I swear they know when the season opens, and just hide. Then when the season is over, they're in my front yard!!!!!!!! |

Well I've been spreading it out over the weeks and it's close to a house so I don't think they're picking up my scent (being use to human smells), however I did cut limbs and they hit the ground pretty hard both times I went so I'm sure that didn't bring them in. I hate when that happens as it makes me overthink everything. |

Right now, the deep woods are full of acorns, of course it's too damn thick and wet to get into those areas; so the deer aren't hitting the bait piles and food plots nearly as often as they have previously. Plus, with the rut in full gear, the bucks are roaming and the does are running and hiding, so sightings are few and far between. With the cold snap that is expected next week, things should pick up, unless the winds are too high. Badger, from what I see on the weather; y'all might have hurricane winds and snow at the same time. That won't help the hunting, but you shouldn't be bothered by the flies!!!!!! |

Yep, I'm heading to the dog hunting club, and will be wading as far as I can into the deep swamp this morning, myself. Wind is gusting at 25 mph to 40 mph, at the moment, and the weather is calling for 10-15% chance of showers, so no telling what's going to happen. I'm hoping that since the moon is almost full, the deer are still walking so the dogs can pick up a hot enough trail that the wind and rain doesn't mess 'em up. |

Got in stand at 6am...walked right into the middle of their bedding...when it got light 7:45 in the fog I could see deer popping up every where...10-20 yrds out....a good bodied buck skirted me and walked the ridge and a fawn came in as all others left bleating following all the trails I'd raked the other day...20min. of wandering around me bleating made me a bit sad....not hunting doe so a few fat doe got passes...lots of fawn around....still foggy ..knock on wood no wind and I'm headed back out at 2pm for the afternoon....Good Luck be safe... |

The damn wind blew so hard, it was almost impossible to hear the dogs today. We had one guy to bloody up a deer, but the dogs gave up on it, so we don't believe it was hurt too badly, Travis and I neither one, saw anything. The good news is that the water level is slowly dropping, and I just might be able to get deep enough into the swamp before the end of the season..........if we don't get any more torrential rains!!!!! |

I posted this on a couple of other sites the day it happened...thought you guys might enjoy it.....Even on days when things don't go as planned...I have a blast in the woods..ya never know what will occur
It was a beautiful morning and I just got back...did a bad bad thing
this a.m....about 9:30 sitting in shooting house...due to wind...Had to
go!...Too much water...so took care of business and I crawl out on to
the deck ...so as not to get caught...reach over blind material and
empty container...There's a rush of noise running away then stops...I...
still on hands and knees brace for what I thought would be
skunk...no...I peek over blind and there 12yrds away are a buck and doe
fawn...he has 4 in spikes and is sniffing like crazy...
she on the other hand is violently shaking her head ...with my urine
spraying of her ears....OOOPPPPssss...Lord what are the chances...she
starts the one foot stomp and turning where she stands...trying to
figure out what just happened.... ears rotating every which way...I back
up into the shooting house and try to get cam but she decides to trot
away up through the woods buck in tow...I think I popped a vein trying
not to laugh out loud...They surely creeped in on me...The wind had the
leafs very noisy this morning...lol
